We know we have Charlotte Charles - a girl named Chuck on PUSHING DAISIES, but will we also have a girl named Charlie? Kind of. Our friends over at E! Online are reporting that Jayma Mays who played Hiro’s waitress love, Charlie, on HEROES as well as Henry’s girlfriend (also named Charlie) on UGLY BETTY will be a guest on the fourth episode of PUSHING DAISIES…but she won’t be named Charlie (at least we hope not).
Jayma Mays will actually play “Elsita, a woman who leads a life of windmillery (she lives and works in a windmill)”, according to E!. Hey, as long as she doesn’t play someone who catches the eye of Ned the Pie Maker, we are ok with it.
Doesn’t she look like she would fit in in PUSHING DAISIES?
Kudos to ABC for its support of PUSHING DAISIES in the months leading up to the premiere. With public screenings in San Diego, LA and New York, ABC has allowed new fans of the show to be its advocate. Word of mouth is a beautiful thing, but if it can be backed up my magazine ads, billboard, and pie then all the better.
The goal is to create early enthusiasts who will talk up the series before its Oct. 3 premiere, said Michael Benson, ABC’s executive vice president of marketing.
“The most important resource is our on-air promotion, and No. 2 is word of mouth,” he said.
Only time and Nielsen ratings will tell if the chatter counts, but there is a discernible buzz. After the cemetery screening, a rave review from one “Jenn P.” popped up on USA Today’s Pop Candy blog.
“It was fabulous!” she wrote. “The show is soooo vibrant and charming, it is impossible not to fall under its spell. Plus, they gave us daisies and free pie! What’s not to love?” (continue reading at SFGate.com)
We’re suckers for a good fanvid, and this one doesn’t disappoint. How could it go wrong with Ned & Chuck living and loving against the theme from “Love, Actually”? Is it October 3rd yet?
Playbill.com has a great piece with PUSHING DAISIES series creator Bryan Fuller. He talks about writing the part of Ned for Lee Pace, casting issues, how EVERWOOD met Coeur d’ Coeur and more.
Fuller’s past creations include “Dead Like Me” (2003) and “Wonderfalls” (2004). Originally, the new series “was going to be a spin-off of ‘Dead Like Me.’ Then I left, halfway through the first season, to do ‘Wonderfalls,’ which only lasted four episodes.” However, that series starred the “Daisies” male lead, Lee Pace, for whom Fuller wrote the part of Ned. “His agents declined, but his manager went around them, and told [Pace] that he should really read the [pilot] script.”
Adam Brody (”The O.C.”) was next offered the part of Ned. “He was not looking to do another series immediately,” relates Fuller, “and he was very gracious. Then Lee’s manager got involved — thank God!”
Jim Dale is also featured on Playbill.com, given his extensive stage work, this is a great read as well.
“My experience is why they hired me. They wanted somebody who was an actor-narrator, which is different than an ordinary narrator. He puts himself into the narration; he knows a little more about the story than you do. The audience doesn’t know what’s going to happen, but the narrator certainly does. He explains it as it goes along, prepares you for surprises, gets you ready for a laugh.”
Pleased with the series, Dale praises “the dialogue and color, the set design and computerized imagery — which are fantastic! The people are brilliant! Lee Pace is a young Cary Grant. I didn’t realize that Anna Friel, the leading lady, was British until I heard her being interviewed.
The accolades continue to roll in for PUSHING DAISIES. The folks over at AOL TV named the show the best of the new Fall season. Here’s what AOL had to say.
