PUSHING DAISIES Cemetery Screening a Hit

PUSHING DAISIES Screening

ThePieMaker.com is trying to scour the internet for people who went to last night’s free screening of PUSHING DAISIES at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Chuck and I tried to go from our homes on the East Coast but for some reason Dee Dee from Boutique Travel Travel Boutique wasn’t answering. It looks like the whole cast showed up as well as Bryan Fuller! The buzz being generated for this show is almost deafening. There is so much chatter online and amongst people that I find it hard to believe that this will not be a huge hit. How many NEW (or existing for that matter) shows would have screenings around the country, travel to Comic-Con, have a viewing in a cemetery or attend the New York Television Festival?

Bryan Fuller and the folks at ABC are working overtime to ensure Pushing Daisies in the buzz show of the upcoming season and we here at The Pie Maker think its working gangbusters!

Out in Hollywood talks with Lee Pace at Cemetery Screening:

The talented actor Lee Pace plays the lead in the new ABC series “Pushing Daisies” which I watched last week at a special screening at the Forever Hollywood Cemetery. The setting was kinda creepy (I never thought I’d step foot in a cemetery at night!) but the show was great! It is a love story about a young man (Pace) who bakes pies for a living but also has a very special gift: the ability to return someone dead briefly back to life with just a simple touch.

LA’s ABC Affiliate reports in:

Pushing Daisies screening at cemetery (VIDEO)

“I’m just glad I’m vertical,” said “Pushing Daisies” co-star Swoosie Kurtz as she gestured around the cemetery. “You know, a lot of people here are no longer upright.”

“It is an unusual event. It is,” said star Lee Pace. In “Pushing Daisies,” Pace plays a guy who can bring dead people back to life with the touch of a finger. “We’re screening a pilot in a cemetery. It’s odd. It’s weird. But it’s kind of an odd show.”

At Hollywood Forever Cemetery, hundreds of people — some of them no longer with us — and one very brave bird flocked together to watch the first episode of “Pushing Daisies.”

Maggie (a TV Writer) from Bootstrap Productions:

The pilot of Pushing Daisies is FABULOUS! It was wonderful on the page and another thousand times better in its final form. It’s just the loveliest thing. It has sort of a dark, sick sense of humor, but that’s couched in sort of Edward Scissorhands bright pastels and a bit of magical realism and all kinds of weird heart.

Oh, I love it so. You knew I would. I knew I would. But it’s fantastic to see it finally, even projected against a mausoleum in a cemetery–which is deeply strange, but appropriate–and find out for real.

The dialogue is so sharp and funny and crisp, so NOT the expected thing, it’s like you’re dancing really fast just to keep up. This is a brilliant show. This show is super smart and funny and sweet but also has a real zing to it.

Me oh my, hearts and hearts and hearts.

Out.com’s Popnography:

I went to the Hollywood Forever cemetery tonight to catch a free sneak peek screening of Pushing Daisies, the new ABC show from Bryan Fuller. It’s great. Like, really really great, in that way that I can tell you it’s sort of a cross between two great indie flicks (Waitress and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) and maybe describe it as a modern fairytale and even say it’s full of smart and funny and talkative moments that scream queer sensibility while still being sweetly straight.

It’s also dark and demented and just flat-out enjoyable in a way that nothing I say here will fully capture. So really — you should just pay attention when in a month or so “Wednesdays this fall” turns into a real premiere date and I tell you how hot and funny Lee Pace is and all the other usual shallow excuses I dig out when I’m going for broke.

We’ll continue to update on this amazing event as more reviews come in.

LEE PACE: Soldier’s Girl Video

Published by Ned under Pushing Daisies Videos, Lee Pace

Ned here at ThePieMaker.com was first introduced to Lee Pace not from Wonderfalls like many of you were but from a small indie film called Soldier’s Girl which was released in 2003 as a Showtime original film.

Lee Pace Soldier’s Girl (with Troy Garity) Lee Pace Soldier’s Girl

Soldier’s Girl is a horrifying yet inspirational film about a young soldier that falls in love with a transsexual performer. It’s the true story of the amazing Calpernia Addams and Barry Winchell and one that will leave you chilled to the bone at the brutality of humanity. Calpernia was once in the military herself, she was a medical specialist in the Navy and also the Marines and served our country during Desert Storm. Calpernia now lives in Los Angeles and is an Author (Mark 947), Actress (Transamerica, Deadwood, CSI) and activist. She basically rocks the house and is one hell of a pinup model as well!

Lee embodies Calpernia and his performance is so genuine and honest that when I saw the film 4 years ago, I could not believe that Lee Pace was not actually a transsexual himself. An unbelievable performance in an unbelievable film that you all have to put into your Netflix que or go rent this weekend.

Here are the first 8 minutes of Soldier’s Girl. Lee Pace arrives as Calpernia Addams 52 seconds in.

Jim Dale: Not Just the Pushing Daisies Narrator

Published by The Pie Maker under Jim Dale

Jim Dale Harry Potter SigningIf you’ve watched the previews or possibly been lucky enough to catch a screening of the PUSHING DAISIES pilot, then you might be wondering why the narrator sounds so familiar. Does he do the Oscars or the Golden Globes? Possibly the voice of the Emmy’s? Nope, it’s the voice of JIM DALE and he’s not just our narrator, he’s the voice of Harry Potter!

Jim Dale has narrated the American audio books for all 7 Harry Potter books and suddenly a huge sigh can be heard across the internet. What’s really fun about Jim Dale is that he’s also a Guinness World Record holder…

Jim Dale is cited for creating more than 200 voices for the Harry Potter books as well as having 6 of the 10 best selling audio books in the United States and Canada.

A Hero on PUSHING DAISIES

WARNING! This post contains speculation on possible spoilers for PUSHING DAISIES.

According to E! Online, a hero from HEROES may be making an appearance on the third episode of PUSHING DAISIES. If it happens, expect this hero to bring one of his powers with him?

Both shows come from the brilliant mind of Bryan Fuller, so a crossover isn’t that crazy of an idea. What is startling is that the crossover would be allowed by ABC and NBC.

E! seems to indicate that it’s a “him” hero, but I would love to see Claire in Couer d’ Couers. Can you imagine if Ned saw her die and before he could take care of her she healed herself? Freaky.

So which hero would you like to see on PUSHING DAISIES?

Matt Roush Loves PUSHING DAISIES

TV Guide columnist, Matt Roush, has been a big supporter of PUSHING DAISIES in his Ask Matt column. Here’s just a few nice notes he has had on the show thus far.

A Push for Pushing Daisies
Now to Pushing Daisies and its entirely different, thoroughly unique look and vibe. Diving into this enchanting show is like gorging on a delicious dessert with each bite giving off a new and unexpected pleasure. It’s charmingly written by Bryan Fuller (Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls, Heroes) and stylishly directed by Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black), who promises to stay involved with this show longer than he did in his earlier forays into distinctive TV (Karen Sisco, Maximum Bob, The Tick). They achieve a tone that is part storybook fantasy (narrated by Jim Dale, every bit as engaging as he is on the Harry Potter audiobooks), part unrequited love story, part wacky comedy, part whodunit procedural. (Continue reading “A Push for Pushing Daisies”)

Ask Matt: 7/30/07
As I’ve been telling everyone, and as I reported again in the last days of the TCA press tour, Pushing Daisies is easily my favorite pilot of the new fall crop. Besides Chenoweth, the cast also includes stage vets Swoozie Kurtz, Ellen Greene and, as the romantic leads, theater-trained Lee Pace (who was also seen in Bryan Fuller’s Wonderfalls) and Anna Friel (Broadway’s Closer). Chenoweth, who might actually wish you’d forget the misbegotten Kristin (she was much better than the material in that one), is delightful in this in what for now is very much a supporting part — but everything about the show is touched with magic.
