Save PUSHING DAISIES…Let’s Do This!!

Published by The Pie Maker under Pushing Daisies News

Pushing Daisies

PUSHING DAISIES ratings were up last night.  About a million more people watched this week than in previous weeks. That’s good. Hopefully every single new person who watched last night will watch again next week. But it’s time to face the hard truth -  the numbers weren’t good enough considering the other three major networks were all airing the same Barack Obama campaign’omercial. It’s time to do more.

KDS posted a rather ass kicking column on what we, PUSHING DAISIES fans, need to do to help save the show.  I hope that she won’t mind us reprinting it here to share with all of you.  (Just remember to visit her site too…like you need a reminder)

The facts are these:

Pushing Daisies needs your help.

Production on episode 13 of season two begins Monday, and that is the last episode currently ordered by ABC for this series. So far the Alphabet network has given no indication to producers that a full-season pickup is coming.

Yes, the Emmy-winning fairy tale could very well end in just a few weeks, and if that were the case, no one who loves good TV would live happily ever after.

Is the situation really as dire as it seems? And can anything be done to save Ned the Pie Maker and friends?
TV fans of the world, in this time of ongoing international turmoil, economic collapse and environmental wackiness, it is important that we come together to save the last best hope of miraculous broadcast television: Pushing Daisies.

Pushing Daisies WILL Air on Wednesday

There has been some questions and chatter about whether or not PUSHING DAISIES would be airing this Wednesday (October 29th) in light of Barack Obama’s half hour campaign commercial.  Sources tell us that Obama either didn’t purchase time on ABC or ABC didn’t accept Obama’s commercial.  Either way, it’s only good news for PUSHING DAISIES.

And listen, we are NOT kidding around.  If PUSHING DAISIES doesn’t bring in more viewers this week, especially up against Obama who will be on CBS and NBC, then the show is seriously at risk.  We don’t know what else to say or do at this time.  Please do what you can to spread the word of PUSHING DAISIES.  Tell everyone to tune in on Wednesday at 8pm on ABC.

*Update: From The Hollywood Report, Bryan Fuller had this to say about going up against Obama…

I certainly have hopes and dreams of the Republican party saving our show. But I’m also hopeful there are a vast majority of Democrats that already know who they’re voting for and will be voting for ‘Daisies’ instead of some silly old political ad (vote Obama!).

For all of us that were far from pleased with ABC last week for not including a preview of “Frescorts” after “Bad Habits” at least we caught a glimpse of Pushing Daisies next episode “Dim Sum Lose Some”

Vanity Fair Q&A with PUSHING DAISIES Executive Producer Dan Jinks

Passing along a great interview with PUSHING DAISIES producer Dan Jinks.

Q&A: Dan Jinks, Executive Producer of Pushing Daisies
by Cassandra Handleyjinks.gif

VF Daily’s new Q&A series features interviews with the top talent from television’s best shows. ABC’s Emmy Award–winning Pushing Daisies is a whimsical, forensic fantasy where a introverted pie-maker named Ned uses his ability to resuscitate the dead with a single touch to revive his childhood sweetheart and solve murder mysteries. Pushing Daisies airs Wednesday nights at nine p.m. E.S.T.

Executive producer Dan Jinks, along with his co-producer, Bruce Cohen, has been directly involved in every facet of the show, from picking the design team to selecting the actors, to editing the dialogue. “Part of my job is to do everything that I can to support the show’s creator, Bryan Fuller, and, when possible, ease the giant workload that rests on his shoulders.,” Jinks says.

VF Daily: Pushing Daisies is known for its cast, but also for its unique aesthetic. Where does the look and feel of the show originate?

Dan Jinks:Bryan Fuller has one of the most delightful and imaginative voices that I have ever read in a script. Early on, [Bruce] Cohen and I had a tremendous collaboration with Fuller, our director Barry Sonnenfeld, production designer Michael Wiley, and director of photography Michael Weaver. These inventive minds helped give the show its very distinctive look. We feel that these behind-the-scenes types are just as much the stars of the show as are the on-screen cast members.

Is it a coincidence that the visual production reminds many people of Tim Burton’s Big Fish, which you had a hand in producing?

That’s not the first time I have heard that comparison, but to give credit where it is due, Barry Sonnenfeld is a major director with a huge career, and as much as we adore Tim Burton and treasure working with him, Sonnenfeld has displayed in movies such as Men in Black and The Addams Family that he has a very strong, original, colorful design aesthetic, and I think that really comes through in a big way for Pushing Daisies.

What is the allure of producing and watching a fanciful show during such a serious time in history?

I think that viewers want to watch a program where they can escape from their own personal worlds and find themselves in our characters’ charming universe. The show takes place in modern times, but it really occurs in a timeless version of today where the characters don’t use cell phones, computers, or other technology. I feel very fortunate to be a part of something where I can visit the set, watch these incredibly gifted actors take already wonderful lines and enhance them to match the show’s innate quirkiness.

Take 5 Minutes to Help PUSHING DAISIES

Published by The Pie Maker under Pushing Daisies News

This is serious business, folks.  The ratings for PUSHING DAISIES have not been where they need to be for the network to sustain the show.  It’s really up to us, the fans, to save the show.  Petitions and fan gestures are great and I’m certainly not knocking them, but the network is going to respond to more eyeballs in front of the TV which translates into new ad revenue.

If you love PUSHING DAISIES then please take 5 minutes out of your day to visit a message board, forum, community, Facebook, etc - any site that allows you to promote tonight’s episode of PUSHING DAISIES. Reach out to your favorite TV bloggers and ask them to promote tonight’s episode. Tell others of your passion for the show and challenge them to just give it a chance. If you need banners or artwork, just ask and I’ll give them to you.

Please feel free to use the comments to share your ideas for promoting the show with other ThePieMaker.com readers.

We need action people!!  Let’s save the show!!
