EXCLUSIVE: PUSHING DAISIES Final Screening

It’s not easy when one of your favorite shows just disappears from the schedule. No warning. No closure. It’s just gone. Fans of the imaginative, funny and beautiful PUSHING DAISIES know this all to well. We all followed the ratings, we knew the story. We knew that this season would be the last for PUSHING DAISIES, but I don’t think we the fans anticipated that ABC would just pull the show away from us before airing all the final episodes. It seemed abrupt and unfair.

Supposedly ABC is obligated to air the final three episodes.  When this will happen is a bit up in the air.  Those associated with the show have their fingers crossed for a summer airing, but it’s all up to ABC.

Despite the show being off the air for months now, PUSHING DAISIES fans are still visiting this site and others to keep the spirit of PUSHING DAISIES alive in the hopes of one day being able to see the final three episodes and properly close out this particular chapter of PUSHING DAISIES.

Not too long ago ThePieMaker.com had the distinct honor of being invited to the cast and crew screening of those final three episodes. Although Dan sadly wasn’t able to make it, I quickly jumped on a plane and headed out to L.A..  I was thrilled to not only represent this site and its readers but, by virtue of being the only in the room not associated with the show, I guess I was there representing all PUSHING DAISIES fans. A true honor.

EXCLUSIVE - PUSHING DAISIES Series Finale Tease

Pushing Daisies Series Finale Tease: The Intrepid Cow (Header)

PUSHING DAISIES creator and all around swell guy Bryan Fuller was kind enough to share an exclusive snippet of the PUSHING DAISIES series finale (“Kerplunk”) with ThePieMaker.com!

Here is a beautiful and bizarre fx clip from the finale.  You can see the pic above in action. It’s a tiny little tease, but one that allows for a little speculation don’t you think?

What is The Intrepid Cow Macaroni and Cheese? How does it play into the final episode of Daisies? Are we looking at another Pie Hole rival or could one of our favorite characters be branching out on his/her own? The possibilities are endless.

Thanks Bryan!!

NOTE: Due to technical issues, the video was temporarily removed. It will be back up soon.

Swoosie Kurtz & Bryan Fuller Reunited on HEROES

Swoosie and Bryan together again on HEROES

The latest hero on HEROES?  How about one half of the Darling Mermaid Darlings.  Ok so maybe Swoosie Kurtz won’t have mermaid-esque superpowers but she will be guesting on an upcoming episode of HEROES.

The part reunites Swoosie with PUSHING DAISIES creator Bryan Fuller who has now returned to HEROES as a producer and writer. Fuller wroter the part especially for Swoosie.

Fuller, now Kurtz.  Am I actually going to have to start watching HEROES again?

Pushing Daisies WILL Air on Wednesday

There has been some questions and chatter about whether or not PUSHING DAISIES would be airing this Wednesday (October 29th) in light of Barack Obama’s half hour campaign commercial.  Sources tell us that Obama either didn’t purchase time on ABC or ABC didn’t accept Obama’s commercial.  Either way, it’s only good news for PUSHING DAISIES.

And listen, we are NOT kidding around.  If PUSHING DAISIES doesn’t bring in more viewers this week, especially up against Obama who will be on CBS and NBC, then the show is seriously at risk.  We don’t know what else to say or do at this time.  Please do what you can to spread the word of PUSHING DAISIES.  Tell everyone to tune in on Wednesday at 8pm on ABC.

*Update: From The Hollywood Report, Bryan Fuller had this to say about going up against Obama…

I certainly have hopes and dreams of the Republican party saving our show. But I’m also hopeful there are a vast majority of Democrats that already know who they’re voting for and will be voting for ‘Daisies’ instead of some silly old political ad (vote Obama!).

BLAST Interview with Bryan Fuller

Terri Schwartz from BLAST Magazine has a good in-depth interview with Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller that talks a little bit about Aunt Lily’s secret and the direction of Season 2.

BLAST: Can you give us a preview of what we might be seeing in the second season?
Bryan Fuller: Well all the cliff-hangers that we had; we had the cliff-hanger with Swoosie Kurtz’s character Lily, that plays a big factor in the first three episodes. Really, beyond that, it really is just a big game changer that affects all of the characters; we understand why that secret was kept and why Lily made the choices that she did to not be honest with Chuck about their relationship and we see what happens when Olive, who has been keeping all these secrets from everybody, how her breakdown sends her off to a nunnery to keep those secrets and what happens when she comes back and lets Chuck know and where does that take Chuck, what’s Chuck’s reaction.

PUSHING DAISIES Falls Into Paley Public Program 2008

Paley Public Programs

The Paley Center will once again cast it’s television focus on Bryan Fuller and Pushing Daisies.  As part of the newly announced Fall 2008 series, The Public Programs at the Paley Center, you have a chance to be a part of a panel discussion with Fuller and the Daisies writing staff.

Pushing Daisies - Inside The Writers Room
Tuesday, November 11, 2008
7:00 pm PT
Paley Center Los Angeles

In Person: Bryan Fuller and additional members of the creative team

A droll satire on human foibles, a whodunit, and a gentle love story rolled into one, Pushing Daisies was certainly the most offbeat new offering of the 2007–2008 television season, not to mention one of the medium’s most deftly written series. Creator Bryan Fuller and members of his writing team will gather to discuss what it takes to pull off this most whimsical and original of programs.

Individual tickets on sale to Paley Center Members Sept. 10; on sale to General Public Sept. 12

To ask questions of Fuller and the writing staff, head over to the Paley Center website. If you’re attending, please leave us a comment so the fans can meet up and represent!

*For New York City fans, you can check out a sneak peek at Pushing Daisies Season 2 at the Paley Center New York on September 12th as part of their ABC Fall Preview night.  Click here for details.

PUSHING DAISIES Comic Con Panel Recap

Pushing Daisies Comic Con Panel

So you’ve seen the pictures and hopefully you’ve had the chance to listen to the full audio of the PUSHING DAISIES panel at Comic Con.  But we understand that some of you have to be a little covert  and maybe can’t be listening while at work or school, so we wanted to post a mini-recap of the panel itself for your reading pleasure.

We’ve broken in out into two sections, the first being general highlights from the panel and the second section being spoilerish information.  If you want to avoid spoilers just stop reading when we tell you to.

Bryan Fuller and the cast are excited about the Comic Con Panel…

  • As happy as the audience would have been to watch the “Pie-lette” once again, it wasn’t in the original plans for Team Daisies. The panel’s opening video was supposed to be some footage from the PUSHING DAISIES Paley Fest panel, but as the now familiar scenes of the first episode aired Bryan Fuller and Barry Sonnenfeld rushed to the stage to stop the presses (or at least the video). Instead they showed the fantastic Season 2 teaser trailer which threw the already amped-up crowd into a tizzy. But not before Fuller was able to pimp the much anticipated launch date for Season 1 of PUSHING DAISIES on DVD (September 16th on DVD and Blu-Ray. Pre-order your copy here today.)
  • As the cast was introduced by moderator Barry Sonnenfeld’s acerbic comments, many of them took the stage by running past the front row and slapping hands with the audience.  I almost lost an eye due to the Cheno fans behind me but it would have been well worth it. (I could always ask Aunt Viv for a fancy new eye-patch).
  • Anna Friel tried out her American accent on the crowd for a bit but we all quickly cheered her back into her British speak. (On a side note, Anna looked stunning in with her black dress and bright red lips)
  • Chi McBride, who was decked out in a colorful tee and jeans quipped that he was dressed for Comic Con while some of his co-stars were red carpet ready.  Kristin and Anna both sported fantastic little black dresses for the event all looked all kinds of glam.
  • Barry Sonnenfeld read aloud a message that Team Daisies sexy mama bear, Ellen Greene, sent to the cast before their bus travels from L.A. to San Diego.  She reminded them that the bus can get chilly so bring a sweater, and offered up some fun travel options including games and movies.  She’s adorable!

PUSHING DAISIES Comic-Con Panel in Pictures

For those of you who couldn’t be there, ThePieMaker.com wanted to let you experience yesterday’s PUSHING DAISIES Comic-Con panel through the images we captured during the panel and then at the autograph signing session that Team Daisies took part in down on the Comic-Con floor. After the signing the cast went up to the WB tower room above the Comic-Con floor to do some interviews - Dan and I were up there too so we snagged a few pics.
