Here is a good article from LA Times Award site The Envelope talking about how PUSHING DAISIES is the only new series to be nominated for a Golden Globe and how it has brought new life to the crime drama genre most television viewers are used to with procedurals like Law & Order. This article also features star Anna Friel talking about being nominated and the joys of Ned and Chuck’s relationship.
If “Pushing Daisies” deserves its Golden Globe nominations, it might just be because in the land of TV crime dramas, this ABC comedy stands out.
Fans might shudder to think of Bryan Fuller’s candy-colored romantic fairy tale as a mere procedural, but that’s actually how the creator pitched his idea. But is it a fairy tale with a procedural bent or a procedural with a fairy tale twist?
No matter. The Hollywood Foreign Press Assn., which in past years discovered fresh cable fare such as “The Shield,” “Nip/Tuck” and “Big Love” before the Emmys noticed them, bestowed three important Golden Globe nominations for “Pushing Daisies.”
The series was the only new show that received a nomination alongside its lead actors, Lee Pace and Anna Friel.
“We all knew it was something special when we got involved with the project but we didn’t realize other people would recognize it so quickly and so surely,” Friel said. “I think it confirms our belief that it’s inventive and something very special on TV that people haven’t seen before.”
Readers of TV Guide have named PUSHING DAISIES’ Ned and Chuck one of the best couples on TV and we happen to agree. This pair who only rediscovered each other approximately 4 months, 8 days, and 20 minutes or so ago are already up there with some of TV’s other great couples including FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS’ Tami & Eric Taylor, GREY’S ANATOMY’s Derek and Meredith and THE OFFICE’s Jim and Pam - nice company to keep Ned and Chuck. So here’s to seeing more of this TV couple in the future.
Congratulations go out once more to the cast and crew of PUSHING DAISIES. This time around it’s for taking home the Satellite Award for Outstanding Comedy Series. Pushing Daisies was up again “Ugly Betty”, “Flight of the Conchords”, “Extras”, “Chuck” and “Weeds” but was the victor in the end.
The Satellite Awards honors the most outstanding achievements in the fields of cinema, television and new media as voted on by The International Press Academy (IPA), one of the largest entertainment press organization in the world.
Make some more space on the mantle, because PUSHING DAISIES has been just been given another honor for being the best in TV. In a week filled with honors for the freshman show, Pushing Daisies has now earned a coveted spot on the American Film Institutes list to Top Ten outstanding televisions programs of of 2007.
Joining Pushing Daisies in the top ten are “Dexter,” “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Friday Night Lights,” “Longford,” “Mad Men,” “The Sopranos,” “Tell Me You Love Me,” “30 Rock” and “Ugly Betty.” ”
The AFI honors, which recognizes the entire creative ensemble behind the show, will be presented on January 11th in Los Angeles.
Once again, ThePieMaker.com congratulate the cast and crew of PUSHING DAISIES on this accomplishment.
