Picture-Perfect Daisies: Chicago Sun Times
Excerpt: Here it is at last, the new TV show with the biggest buzz among critics. I almost hate to say this (since I can be a contrarian at times), but “Pushing Daisies” deserves its high praise. It’s the best new drama of the fall, finding sweet hope in morbid tragedy…The debut is a luxurious beast of a fairy tale that finally brings “Amelie’s” French-daydream rhythm and soul to the small screen. If viewers take to “Daisies” the way critics have — I can’t imagine this won’t be at least a cult hit — a field of copycats may bloom next fall, and American TV would become a Frenchier landscape of fresh fantasies. Bottom Line: Pushing Daisies: The Hollywood Reporter
Excerpt: You’ll know it when you click on “Pushing Daisies.” Instinctively, you’ll reach around for your sunglasses. Few shows give your pixels a workout like this one. Of course, there’s more to “Daisies” than an arresting color palette, but the show’s stimulating optical quality is one of the more obvious differences between this unusual, whimsical dramedy and just about everything else on the air. Fall Preview: Pushing Daisies: GiveMeMyRemote.com
Excerpt: PUSHING DAISIES is like nothing you have seen on TV before and it will make you fall in love with TV all over again. The show will satisfy your senses with its vibrant look and its decidedly delicious, distinctive and daring dialogue. There is not one moment wasted in this incredible pilot - the best one I have seen since LOST. (Continue reading at Give Me My Remote)

A Letter of Recommendation: Adam Rucker
Excerpt: Altogether, the show’s character craziness, visual variety, and altogether unique way of storytelling means that it will either be extremely successful, or not at all. I’m naturally hoping for the successful side of that argument. (Continue reading at Adam Rucker’s Blog)

PUSHING DAISIES: To Good to be True?

You’ll be hard pressed to find a review of the upcoming premiere of PUSHING DAISIES that doesn’t praise the shows originality and in the same breath question its sustainability. Critics and viewers who were lucky enough to get a sneak peek of the pilot are lavishing the show with words like “brilliant”, “daring”, and “near perfect”, but many still worry that the show may be too different and that it will have a hard time finding an audience.

A similar idea is heralded in a recent article from The Hollywood Reporter. It seems like you just can’t win these days. That’s why it’s so important for you to help spread the word of PUSHING DAISIES. We are sure that if an audience tunes in they will love it. For suggestions on how you can help promote, Pushing Daisies, click here to contact us.

Once in a great while a TV series pilot comes along that grabs your attention. So spectacular is this opening installment that it single-handedly restores your faith in the medium, leaving you practically salivating for the next episode.

The new ABC series “Pushing Daisies” fits that bill, which is exactly why I fear it is doomed.

Don’t get me wrong: “Daisies” is head and shoulders — maybe even knees and toes — above the rest of the largely ho-hum 2007-08 broadcast pilots. But as we stare down the barrel of another TV season, “Daisies” might end up a reminder of how easy it is to overestimate the value of a good pilot, which can be a notoriously misleading indicator of a series’ future viability. Behind the Scenes of PUSHING DAISIES

On the set of PUSHING DAISIES (Bryan Fuller, Chi McBride, Anna Friel)

The LA Times gives us a glimpse further into the world of PUSHING DAISIES on a recent set visit (lucky ducks). In this great article Lee Pace (Ned), Chi McBride (Emerson) and creator Bryan Fuller talk about what viewers can expect as the world of PUSHING DAISIES moves beyond the confines of The Pie Hole.Warning: The article and corresponding pictures provide small spoilers for upcoming episodes. Continue reading at your own risk.

Every moment is precious…
Even when Fuller gives us the ages of his characters, it’s both refreshing and telling. When viewers first meet Ned, he is “9 years, 27 weeks, 6 days and 3 minutes old.” But then flash-forward “19 years, 34 weeks, 1 day and 59 minutes” and Ned is an adult baking pies who moonlights as a private detective partnered with Emerson Cod (Chi McBride).

“I just thought that every minute was precious,” said Fuller, who spent last year on the writing staff of “Heroes.” “So when the narrative talks about how old somebody is, the motivation is that at the end of your life, down to the minute, you look at every minute as precious.” (continue reading at The LA Times)

ABC President is pushing ‘Daisies’

ABC President Steve McPherson is excited for the premiere of PUSHING DAISIES.  In an interview with TheEnvelope.com, McPherson had the following praise for the show:

My hats off to Bryan Fuller, who created the show. It’s his vision from beginning to end. Barry Sonnenfeld brought a great touch to the premiere episode. It’s a truly unique, interesting, touching procedural show with romance, intrigue and comedy to it. Visually, it’s the most stunning show put on television in years. We’ve had a lot of success taking chances — whether it was “Lost” or “Ugly Betty.” “Pushing Daisies” is one of those shows that stands out in a crowded market. It’s wonderful doing shows like this and not just trying to copy what’s already working out there.

USA Today Calls PUSHING DAISIES Best Blooming Show of the Year

Another glowing review of PUSHING DAISIES.  This one in particular pulled at my heart strings:

USA TODAY: 10 Top TV Picks of 2007
Robert Bianco

Welcome to the best blooming show of the year.

Yet to say Pushing Daisies is the season’s best pilot doesn’t do it justice. It may be the best pilot since Lost, the kind of show that revives your faith in network TV. And while it is true that ABC has topped this list the past two years with fine shows that didn’t fly (The Nine and Invasion), the brighter, more accessible Daisies could be the third charm that breaks that curse.

Created by Bryan Fuller (of cult-adored Wonderfalls fame), directed by filmmaker Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) and graced with the year’s most engaging ensemble, Daisies is an enchanting fable about love, death and the powers and problems of human contact.

It’s built around a lonely hero (Pace) who is able to bring people back to life, or send them back to death, with a touch — a power that allows him to solve crimes and right wrongs, but which also isolates him.

More than with most shows, though, it isn’t enough to just read about Daisies. You have to see it — to revel in the witty, candy-colored glow of Sonnenfeld’s visuals, in the warmth of Fuller’s vision, and in the endearingly eccentric characters so winningly played by this great cast. Indeed, if you’ve ever expressed a desire for something different on TV, you owe it to yourself to check Daisies out.

ABC Fall First Look: PUSHING DAISIES

Pushing Daisies VideoABC and Entertainment Weekly have paired up to introduce new viewers to PUSHING DAISIES. The Editors of EW give us a Pushing Daisies 101 in this great video. Find all about Ned’s unique abilities and why Ned & Chuck will be the most painful ‘will they or won’t they’ couple in TV history. Unfortunately they won’t let us embed it, but you can watch it on youtube by clicking here or on the image.

Also, feel free to check out “Ned’s Abilities”, a similar type video from ABC/EW.  The two videos are very similar but if you just can’t get enough of Pushing Daisies (and really who can) then check out both.

PUSHING DAISIES Cemetery Screening a Hit

PUSHING DAISIES Screening

ThePieMaker.com is trying to scour the internet for people who went to last night’s free screening of PUSHING DAISIES at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Chuck and I tried to go from our homes on the East Coast but for some reason Dee Dee from Boutique Travel Travel Boutique wasn’t answering. It looks like the whole cast showed up as well as Bryan Fuller! The buzz being generated for this show is almost deafening. There is so much chatter online and amongst people that I find it hard to believe that this will not be a huge hit. How many NEW (or existing for that matter) shows would have screenings around the country, travel to Comic-Con, have a viewing in a cemetery or attend the New York Television Festival?

Bryan Fuller and the folks at ABC are working overtime to ensure Pushing Daisies in the buzz show of the upcoming season and we here at The Pie Maker think its working gangbusters!

Out in Hollywood talks with Lee Pace at Cemetery Screening:

The talented actor Lee Pace plays the lead in the new ABC series “Pushing Daisies” which I watched last week at a special screening at the Forever Hollywood Cemetery. The setting was kinda creepy (I never thought I’d step foot in a cemetery at night!) but the show was great! It is a love story about a young man (Pace) who bakes pies for a living but also has a very special gift: the ability to return someone dead briefly back to life with just a simple touch.

LA’s ABC Affiliate reports in:

Pushing Daisies screening at cemetery (VIDEO)

“I’m just glad I’m vertical,” said “Pushing Daisies” co-star Swoosie Kurtz as she gestured around the cemetery. “You know, a lot of people here are no longer upright.”

“It is an unusual event. It is,” said star Lee Pace. In “Pushing Daisies,” Pace plays a guy who can bring dead people back to life with the touch of a finger. “We’re screening a pilot in a cemetery. It’s odd. It’s weird. But it’s kind of an odd show.”

At Hollywood Forever Cemetery, hundreds of people — some of them no longer with us — and one very brave bird flocked together to watch the first episode of “Pushing Daisies.”

Maggie (a TV Writer) from Bootstrap Productions:

The pilot of Pushing Daisies is FABULOUS! It was wonderful on the page and another thousand times better in its final form. It’s just the loveliest thing. It has sort of a dark, sick sense of humor, but that’s couched in sort of Edward Scissorhands bright pastels and a bit of magical realism and all kinds of weird heart.

Oh, I love it so. You knew I would. I knew I would. But it’s fantastic to see it finally, even projected against a mausoleum in a cemetery–which is deeply strange, but appropriate–and find out for real.

The dialogue is so sharp and funny and crisp, so NOT the expected thing, it’s like you’re dancing really fast just to keep up. This is a brilliant show. This show is super smart and funny and sweet but also has a real zing to it.

Me oh my, hearts and hearts and hearts.

Out.com’s Popnography:

I went to the Hollywood Forever cemetery tonight to catch a free sneak peek screening of Pushing Daisies, the new ABC show from Bryan Fuller. It’s great. Like, really really great, in that way that I can tell you it’s sort of a cross between two great indie flicks (Waitress and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) and maybe describe it as a modern fairytale and even say it’s full of smart and funny and talkative moments that scream queer sensibility while still being sweetly straight.

It’s also dark and demented and just flat-out enjoyable in a way that nothing I say here will fully capture. So really — you should just pay attention when in a month or so “Wednesdays this fall” turns into a real premiere date and I tell you how hot and funny Lee Pace is and all the other usual shallow excuses I dig out when I’m going for broke.

We’ll continue to update on this amazing event as more reviews come in.
