Episode 1.1: PUSHING DAISIES Premiere

PUSHING DAISIES: “Pie-lette”

Original Airdate: October 3, 2007

Summary: Ned, a mild-mannered baker of fabulous pies, discovered as a child that he had a unique gift. Ned had the ability to return someone dead briefly back to life with just a simple touch. Through the years, Ned has learned to live with his unique ability, and puts his gift to good use, working with his only friend, a private investigator, to crack murder cases by asking victims to name their killers. But the tale gets complicated, as all tales do, when he saves his childhood sweetheart and she miraculously stays alive. Life would be perfect, except for one cruel twist: if Ned ever touches her again, she’ll lose the life he gave her, for good this time. There’s always a catch…

Picture-Perfect Daisies: Chicago Sun Times
Excerpt: Here it is at last, the new TV show with the biggest buzz among critics. I almost hate to say this (since I can be a contrarian at times), but “Pushing Daisies” deserves its high praise. It’s the best new drama of the fall, finding sweet hope in morbid tragedy…The debut is a luxurious beast of a fairy tale that finally brings “Amelie’s” French-daydream rhythm and soul to the small screen. If viewers take to “Daisies” the way critics have — I can’t imagine this won’t be at least a cult hit — a field of copycats may bloom next fall, and American TV would become a Frenchier landscape of fresh fantasies. Bottom Line: Pushing Daisies: The Hollywood Reporter
Excerpt: You’ll know it when you click on “Pushing Daisies.” Instinctively, you’ll reach around for your sunglasses. Few shows give your pixels a workout like this one. Of course, there’s more to “Daisies” than an arresting color palette, but the show’s stimulating optical quality is one of the more obvious differences between this unusual, whimsical dramedy and just about everything else on the air. Fall Preview: Pushing Daisies: GiveMeMyRemote.com
Excerpt: PUSHING DAISIES is like nothing you have seen on TV before and it will make you fall in love with TV all over again. The show will satisfy your senses with its vibrant look and its decidedly delicious, distinctive and daring dialogue. There is not one moment wasted in this incredible pilot - the best one I have seen since LOST. (Continue reading at Give Me My Remote)

A Letter of Recommendation: Adam Rucker
Excerpt: Altogether, the show’s character craziness, visual variety, and altogether unique way of storytelling means that it will either be extremely successful, or not at all. I’m naturally hoping for the successful side of that argument. (Continue reading at Adam Rucker’s Blog)

PUSHING DAISIES Cemetery Screening a Hit

PUSHING DAISIES Screening

ThePieMaker.com is trying to scour the internet for people who went to last night’s free screening of PUSHING DAISIES at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Chuck and I tried to go from our homes on the East Coast but for some reason Dee Dee from Boutique Travel Travel Boutique wasn’t answering. It looks like the whole cast showed up as well as Bryan Fuller! The buzz being generated for this show is almost deafening. There is so much chatter online and amongst people that I find it hard to believe that this will not be a huge hit. How many NEW (or existing for that matter) shows would have screenings around the country, travel to Comic-Con, have a viewing in a cemetery or attend the New York Television Festival?

Bryan Fuller and the folks at ABC are working overtime to ensure Pushing Daisies in the buzz show of the upcoming season and we here at The Pie Maker think its working gangbusters!

Out in Hollywood talks with Lee Pace at Cemetery Screening:

The talented actor Lee Pace plays the lead in the new ABC series “Pushing Daisies” which I watched last week at a special screening at the Forever Hollywood Cemetery. The setting was kinda creepy (I never thought I’d step foot in a cemetery at night!) but the show was great! It is a love story about a young man (Pace) who bakes pies for a living but also has a very special gift: the ability to return someone dead briefly back to life with just a simple touch.

LA’s ABC Affiliate reports in:

Pushing Daisies screening at cemetery (VIDEO)

“I’m just glad I’m vertical,” said “Pushing Daisies” co-star Swoosie Kurtz as she gestured around the cemetery. “You know, a lot of people here are no longer upright.”

“It is an unusual event. It is,” said star Lee Pace. In “Pushing Daisies,” Pace plays a guy who can bring dead people back to life with the touch of a finger. “We’re screening a pilot in a cemetery. It’s odd. It’s weird. But it’s kind of an odd show.”

At Hollywood Forever Cemetery, hundreds of people — some of them no longer with us — and one very brave bird flocked together to watch the first episode of “Pushing Daisies.”

Maggie (a TV Writer) from Bootstrap Productions:

The pilot of Pushing Daisies is FABULOUS! It was wonderful on the page and another thousand times better in its final form. It’s just the loveliest thing. It has sort of a dark, sick sense of humor, but that’s couched in sort of Edward Scissorhands bright pastels and a bit of magical realism and all kinds of weird heart.

Oh, I love it so. You knew I would. I knew I would. But it’s fantastic to see it finally, even projected against a mausoleum in a cemetery–which is deeply strange, but appropriate–and find out for real.

The dialogue is so sharp and funny and crisp, so NOT the expected thing, it’s like you’re dancing really fast just to keep up. This is a brilliant show. This show is super smart and funny and sweet but also has a real zing to it.

Me oh my, hearts and hearts and hearts.

Out.com’s Popnography:

I went to the Hollywood Forever cemetery tonight to catch a free sneak peek screening of Pushing Daisies, the new ABC show from Bryan Fuller. It’s great. Like, really really great, in that way that I can tell you it’s sort of a cross between two great indie flicks (Waitress and Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang) and maybe describe it as a modern fairytale and even say it’s full of smart and funny and talkative moments that scream queer sensibility while still being sweetly straight.

It’s also dark and demented and just flat-out enjoyable in a way that nothing I say here will fully capture. So really — you should just pay attention when in a month or so “Wednesdays this fall” turns into a real premiere date and I tell you how hot and funny Lee Pace is and all the other usual shallow excuses I dig out when I’m going for broke.

We’ll continue to update on this amazing event as more reviews come in.
