Are You Going to the PUSHING DAISIES Panel at Paley Tonight?

Published by The Pie Maker at 11:43 am under Pushing Daisies - Paley

Are you one of the lucky PUSHING DAISIES fans going to the ‘Inside the Writers Room’ panel at the Paley Center tonight?  If so, I am beyond jealous.  I’m here in L.A., actually.  Flew in from Boston last night.  I wasn’t supposed to arrive until later in the week but I changed my flight to arrive early specifically to attend the PUSHING DAISIES panel.  But as it turned out I couldn’t get my hands on a ticket - I asked all around and there just weren’t any to be found.  Devastated about not being able to attend, I made another (binding) commitment for tonight.  And you know what happened?  In the last 24 hours I was offered a ticket from three different people.  Ugh.  Can you believe it?  Had I not made my other plans for tonight I could have been at the PUSHING DAISIES panel.

Such is life.

Enough of my whining.  If you are going to be at tonight’s panel, please share your experience with ThePieMaker.com.  And please share our best with all the panelists. To say I wish I was there is a bit of an understatement.

    Hi!
Tonight I was able to go to the meeting at the Paley Center! Although it wasn’t quite what I expected, Ill do my best to describe it for those of you who weren’t there. First of all 11 of the 13 writers from the show were there to talk about it. Bryan Fuller was there of course. Surprisingly, or not so surprisingly, most of the people there were actually somehow involved in Pushing Daisies or the industry. They previewed the sixth episode “Oh, Oh, Oh It’s Magic”, the episode that comes out next week! I won’t really give away any spoilers, but as we all know, the episode is about magic. This brings up the theme of the “disappearing act” Ned’s father played on both him and the twins, Maurice and Ralston. It delves into a lot of Ned’s father issues and talks a bit more about exactly what happened to the twins. We see Dwight Dixon come back in this episode and he pays a visit to the aunt’s. There are also a LOT of subtle jokes and versions on well known phrases which make the episode a lot of fun. Ned and Olive seem to be more friendly without the usual tension between them. Unfortunately neither Simone nor Randy make a reappearance in this episode but during the forum the writers said that Randy Mann’s character will be back on the show. Kristin Dos Santos, the host for tonight, asked a question I think all Pushing Daisies fans out there want to know. What’s going to happen to the show? The writers didn’t really have a definitive answer because it seems that right now no one really knows. All they said was that Warner Brothers has been getting a lot of pies, daisies and daisy seeds which the Pushing Daisies team really appreciates so keep them coming! There was a lot of talk about guest stars such as Mary Ann Beatle from Wonderfalls coming to guest star as a rival to Ned and Olive in a cook off in Comfort Food. The main feel was a very positive one but it was clear that Pushing Daisies fans need to work really hard if they have their hearts set on keeping the show. We need those viewers! I know this weekend I’ll be passing out flyers and trying to get people interested in the show so that they watch next week. I’ll probably make a fool out of myself but honestly I would do anything to keep this wonderful show on the air. Bryan Fuller and the team said that episode 13 wraps on Thursday and could possibly be the last episode if people don’t start watching the show and giving it good ratings. They said that the episode ends with a huge cliffhanger which may not really be as satisfying as the Wonderfalls finale. I know that I want Pushing Daisies to at least get to finish out the season. Please Pushing Daisies fans of the world tell your friends, family, relatives hell anyone who you can get to watch the show. Next week is a very important week and the stations will be watching which shows do well and which don’t very closely. So get people to watch!! If anyone has any other questions about the panel just write them on this board and I’ll answer them as best I can.

I was there too! It was so much fun to watch an episode with a live audience, hearing people laugh and cheer with me. Plus, next week’s episode is wonderful and something all Pushing Daisies fans can look forward to.

It was very fun to hear the banter between the creative minds behind the show, and a treat to listen to the brilliant Bryan Fuller.

Keep those daisies, pies and letters rolling to ABC because it sounds like the executives there like the show and believe in the creative team, but it truly is up to viewers to give them reason to keep it!!

P.S. as someone who was of a different age demographic from people at the panel I realized that people from 8-20 really need to start getting interested in the show because a large group of people in their 30s-60s are watching it, but they become less hooked on TV’s shows that younger people do. :)

Thank you SO much, PDfan, I’ve been checking back here every hour or so to see if anything was said about Pushing Daisies’ fate. Let’s hope WB gets sick of getting flower seeds and pies and decides to give PD the green light just to stop the madness.

I’ve been trying to get my friends into PD (as I’m in that 8-20 demographic you mentioned), and I’ve gotten at least one. Nobody is getting me away from my television next week. I have no idea if my TV has that funky box that counts the ratings or whatever, but I’m watching anyway.

If PD stops forever with a H-U-G-E cliffhanger, I think I will go completely mental. It would be bad enough if I never saw what happened with Ned and Chuck, but the cliffhangers really kill me. I’m sure I’m not the only one out there who feels this way. o_O

Come ON! I mean come on. Why is such an incredible show floundering?! Is the network really afraid to take a chance on an inventive, precious, award-winning/nominated show? What is wrong here? Have a little faith, network heads and give it at LEAST one more season after the conclusion of this one. Then, if it really is going to be dropped, there will be closure. (As truly awful as that would be. ) *U_U*

I was also there last night. PDFan covered most of the major things they discussed, however they did say that in the final episode they only chose one major storyline to wrap up (they didn’t say which one) and that the rest were left open-ended. The good news is, they said that they were hoping to tie up any loose ends through a Pushing Daisies comic book.

Also, another thing…Kristin asked if there would ever be a “loophole” for Chuck and Ned so they could finally touch, and Bryan said it was more fun for them to overcome the obstacle than to eliminate it, so I guess that’s a no. Look for different contraptions in the coming epiodes, he mentioned something about a spooning device.

He also talked about the Chuck/Ned slapjack story…very cute!

I was there! What a great night! It was super great to hear about the creative process. I had a chance to see the cast at Comic con nad the experience was completely different. It was a treat to see both sides.
What I walked away with was how much fun the writers had creating each episode. Also a lot of work and thought goes into each script. Brian Fuller is truly the genius behind the show but he is supported by some very talented people. All of whom are young, creative, smart and believe in Fuller’s vision.
Did any of you who attended feel the MC dug to much into what was coming up, to the point it was ruining the suspense of the coming episodes? I felt that way. I wanted to jump up and say, “stop!” I don’t want to know what is coming.
I agree we pie lovers must save this show!
pdfan57, what a great description of the night. You had it right on the mark with your telling.

Hello fellow PD fans! I work for an entertainment news website and I had the chance to speak to Bryan Fuller exclusively before the panel. We discussed some things that weren’t discussed in the room, including the possibility of moving the show to another network and a Pushing Daisies MOVIE. I thought you might be interested in that! Here’s the article:

Wow. So that sounded completely amazing. I wish I could’ve been there! Not only because I am a freakishly obsessive PD fan, but an aspiring writer. It would’ve been wonderful to hear actual successful people in the industry talk about their work. But thanks for the recaps!

And there’s no way we’re letting episode 13 be the last one. Just no way. I’m thinking of handing out flyers as well–I would feel kinda stupid about it. Then again…not really. It’s for the greater good–as in the best show on television!

    We’re saving PD, Pie Hos!

  13. pdfan57on 13 Nov 2008 at 3:54 am

Luisaon I’m also an aspiring writer. I’m actually working on my own little project right now. Don’t worry too much about missing out on the writers panel. It was fun but I didn’t really get to see how they created the shows the way I’d hoped. The panel was much more directed at where the show is going and what’s coming up for the next episodes. It also anwered some questions such as where the idea came from for the characters to talk quickly. Bryan Fuller said that idea came from his boyfriend Scott who got him into that style from some of the old movies. I completely agree with you that its for the greater good to pass out fliers and maybe look quirky but hey who would say Pushing Daisies isn’t quirky? In all the right ways of course! :) My suggestion is to call up some friends and have them go with you to pass out fliers like Ill be doing. It’ll be more fun for you and you might not be as embarrassed. Call in that favor with the friend who you had to pick up from that sketchy party with her sailboat buddies.Or whatever it happens to be. You both know they owe you and who knows you just might have fun.
Ps handing out daisies or free pieces of pie might be a nice touch!

  14. Caioon 13 Nov 2008 at 9:05 am

    Thanks Jen!!!Keep us posted!!
    :)

  15. Anneon 13 Nov 2008 at 11:48 am

    I missed it! No ticket…

Does anyone know if the event will be available online? Thanks Thanks Thanks.

  16. Luisaon 14 Nov 2008 at 1:52 am

pdfan57-Ooh, good idea about giving away free pie or daisies! I’m thinking of dragging some friends along (hey, one of them did make me go to a country music concert, they owe me big time ;) to Central Market. Do you think the store would be annoyed with handing out flyers and free stuff bought from them? Well, not the stuff bought from them part, but the flyers, maybe. Is that solicitation? Hmm..
And that’s cool that you’re a writer too! Your little project have anything to do with PD, perhaps?… I kinda wrote a bit of an episode a while ago, but I hate to call it fanfic…yet I guess it is. Ah, well. God I’d love to write for this show!

  17. Franon 14 Nov 2008 at 7:43 am

I’m from Germany and although we only saw the third episode of the first season this week, I got tons of people to watching it! My enthusiasm when I talk about the show just makes people curious and when they watched ony one episode they totally fall in love with the show^^
I also wrote a Mail to ABC and sent Daisy seeds (German ones, so it’s something special too^^), so I’m doing my very best over here to help. Unfortunately I don’t have this thingy that’s counting the viewers, so I can’t really help with watching the show, even when I do. I can only talk about it and hope that people will like it the way that I do!!

I wonder how you guys here from these panels? Where do you get the information where and when it is? And how do you get the tickets? I always wanted to go, but Germany is a little bit too far away^^

To all fans: DON’T GIVE UP AND DO YOUR BEST!! I do my best over here and hope that it’s helping somehow.

I know how you feel.Everybody here in Brazil loves the show too,but our viewership counts for nothing.
If you have any friends at the USA,tell them to watch, every wed at 8p.m. on ABC.That may help.
You can also contact ABC and american cable networks about picking up the show.

  19. Reneeon 17 Nov 2008 at 10:40 am

Don’t forget, too that watching episodes on ABC.com counts for ratings! Watch over and over and over! (Not that that would be a difficult task, really.) *~_^*

  20. Franon 18 Nov 2008 at 2:27 am

    Caio
The problem is, that I can’t watch the episodes on ABC! When I try they tell me that it is only for US Viewers and that totally sucks!!! Otherwise I would them every day^^
I already contacted ABC but I’ll try to contact some of my friends over there.

    I’ll try my best!!!!

  21. Franon 18 Nov 2008 at 2:30 am

    I would watch them every day..silly me^^
By the way, every morning and every night I’m looking up the signatures and it is really cool how fast they are rising!!! I mean, I signed on the second of November and there were 23.467 and today we have 40.276 already, that is sooooo awesome!!!! I just hope people keep signing!!!

    Katie

  24. pdfan57on 18 Nov 2008 at 11:25 pm

Luisa- sorry im writing back so late, my internet has been on the fritz. My project actually doesn’t really have to do with Pushing Daisies, but if it ever gets finished then it’s pretty clear how much of an influence Pushing Daisies has in it. Sorry to keep it so vague. :( I’ve also always wanted to write an episode. I think that would just be about the best thing ever! The idea of having them go to one of the Body Works museums and wake up one of those people I always thought was a really interesting….if a tad bit morbid, idea. I hope that you and your friend got out to go campaign for PD and maybe even got some people interested. Everyone remember to tune in tomorrow night!!

P.S. No one should worry about the midseason line up right now. I’ve heard from pretty reliable sources that no matter what, this season of PD is done with 13 episodes. This doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s over for good. If enough people tune in tomorrow night and for the rest of the season, they have a chance of returning next fall.
