Oh my gosh! I absolutely love Chuck’s green top and belt and high waist plaid pants!!! and the last outfit she wore with the beautiful scarf….so chic and gorgeous!!! I soooo hope they sell these somewhere!!!!

Great episode–loved Chuck jumping over the counters like a gymnast every time her aunts would come in.

This might just be me, but does anyone feel the background orchestration this season is overwhelming the dialogue? I’m watching the show on the HD channel on a new TV and the sound seems all screwed up. In some scenes one character’s voice comes through clearly, and others are muffled by the music.

I watched last week’s episode with ABC’s online player and the sound was fine.

Am I going crazy or does anyone notice this?

  15. chenofanon 09 Oct 2008 at 6:32 am

i loved chuck’s plaid pants ( rupert, rupert the bear!) and the fact olive talks to pigbe in the begining

  16. Brookeon 09 Oct 2008 at 7:10 am

This was a vast improvement over last weeks episode. Lol Emerson, “If this van’s a-rockin’, I’m being murdered.” I didn’t really like the fast pace of this season’s premiere, so it was great to see that they are back on track on slowing it down a little and making the hilarious show I’ve really grown fond of :)

And lisap, I’ve noticed the same thing too. I watch PD on an HDTV channel so that might be the problem there, but I could barely hear Ned and Chuck during the music.

  17. rockerbabyfi12on 09 Oct 2008 at 7:37 am

I liked last week’s a bit better than this week’s, actually. But I still LOVED this week’s…..

They certainly added to the stress level by having the aunts just pop up all the time. And I love it.
I think Ned and Chuck pretending to be strangers at the end was just about the cutest thing I’ve seen in a long time.
I loved the commercial break that broke off Ned’s dirty limryc.
And what sort of “contraptions” has Ned building to get around touching, and what touching are they doing? Inquiring minds want to know!

  18. abbykateon 09 Oct 2008 at 10:04 am

Okay, so here’s the dealio. In my most honest opinion, this episode kicked the premiere in the piemakers.

The dialogue seemed smoother and the plot got going, but what i loved most was that there was more Real Life to it than last week’s. Last week’s episode was a lot about the case with just a sprinkling of the reality of PD, but this week, the reality seemed to be the main course with maybe an ice cream scoop of the case. I don’t know. Maybe it was just me. But the whole episode worked a lot better for me.

…and this is coming from a girl deathly afraid of clowns. Oh, Pushing Daisies! The things I endure for you!! Hahaha

I love seeing glimpses of the human side of Emerson as well as the very human jealousy of Ned. Additionally, I remember a narration line from last season that said “Chuck’s secret [was warming] its toes in the sunshine” or something like that…and that seems to be the whole deal with Chuck. She’s warming her LIFE in the sunshine…not just Ned’s shadow with breaks in the clouds when he decides to put them there. The show is really hitting its stride!

Everyone in the cast is looking great! And since I’m not afraid to objectify him (he needs someone in his life to objectify him! lol), Lee Pace is the most expressive, adorable, long-torso’ed thing on television. There, I said it. Don’t look at me like that! You were all thinking it! :D

Oh! One last thing, I was glad that we only went 10 minutes without a commercial break. I know commercials are boring or whatever, but I think the fact that we went 20 minutes without a break last week contributed to the midpoint ratings drop-off. People have to pee, you know! :D

  19. kristinloveron 09 Oct 2008 at 11:10 am

that was such a good ep. i hate when wendsdays r over that means we have to wait another week

  20. Oliviaon 09 Oct 2008 at 11:18 am

I liked this episode better than the last one, I thought it was so much fun! the costumes and make-up were so cool. And the Ned/Chuck moments were so cute!

  21. Digbyon 09 Oct 2008 at 12:50 pm

Lisap, you’re not crazy. I watched it in HD as well and had trouble understanding the dialogue here and there… did the opening narration say “76 days, [2 HOURS? 2 YEARS? 2 WEEKS?], and [whatever] minutes” about how long Ned had been at the school… I rewound at least 10 times and could never quite make out what Jim Dale said. There were several places where the dialogue (not just the narration) was either muffled or not enunciated. Jim, Lee, Chi, and Anna all did it. There was a line of Emerson’s that seemed really funny - but I couldn’t really catch it, so I had to laugh a little for the joke I imagine they put in but not as much as if I’d really heard it.

Apart from the totally frustrating audio and rewinding, the episode was brilliant. Swoozie Kurtz is sort of a genius with her character, but they all brought something new and wonderful to the scenes. I love this show, and I mention the audio problems because I’d like them to sort it out and be an even bigger hit this season.

    Very sweet ending.

  22. KellyHon 09 Oct 2008 at 2:15 pm

The ratings were even worse. Unless ABC is willing to take a chance on a different time slot, the show is absolutely doomed and there is nothing that can be done to save it. That is the sad truth. Fuller took a risk not producing any new episodes after the strike last year. That was obviously a horrible, horrible, horrible mistake.

  23. **A**on 09 Oct 2008 at 3:34 pm

Lol I love the mime guy and Emerson with the gun. And Chuck, “Will you do that box thing? I love that!” And at the end:
“I wake pies and make the dead. That was creepy.”

Awww the game was cute 2.
“Can we play this game eveyday?”
    “Absolutely postively!”

  24. Maseon 09 Oct 2008 at 4:40 pm

The show has got to switch time slots and fast!! PD needs exposure and the best way to do that is to have it lead into a ratings juggernaut like DWTS or have it sandwiched in between two of the higher rated shows. It would be a good lead in to Grey’s as well. The strike really killed this show’s momentum and I am just hoping a praying that ABC at least let’s them film all 13 episodes that they ordered and wrap up the story lines the way that they should. I am hoping that Ned will have a twin brother who is a failed inventor that stumbles upon a spray that he and chuck could put on that would allow them to touch each other!!

  25. Digbyon 09 Oct 2008 at 7:20 pm

Hey, let’s try to channel a little Chuck here and stay positive. The show isn’t doomed. It’s unique, which may mean it doesn’t appeal to the widest audience, but it’s also election season, so lots of folks may be avoiding turning their sets on because of all the political ads… or they can’t afford their electricity bills any more.
Either way, for as long as it lasts, PD is a treat to watch. I hope it continues to bring color and joy, and pie cravings, to all those smart enough to watch it.

Personally, I hope Ned & Chuck never have the ability to touch. It would ruin the whole premise of the show. Besides, it’s so much more interesting to see how they manage without that normal relationship aspect.

  26. Maseon 09 Oct 2008 at 8:05 pm

Digby , I respectfully disagree with you. I think that them actually touching will bring closure to one aspect of their relationship and open a new door to another.

I think part of the problem that people have with the show is just that. I have heard many friends say that they like the show but “how long can they drag them not touching each other out”. I think that only gets you so far. The facts are these , PD needs a shake-up or a VERY , VERY patient network for it to survive.

I love the show more than anyone and own the dvd and own all the episodes on itunes , so I am a true fan. I think that they have PD in the wrong spot. ABC needs a night of feel good tv. They could call it “Feel good Tuesday” or “Feel good Thursday”. Have shows like “Samantha Who and their other comedies on on one night. It would be great counter programming to all the gloom and doom shows that are on. What do you guys think??

  27. abbykateon 09 Oct 2008 at 9:14 pm

I agree with you, MASE, that the time-slot is a major problem. It would make such a great Sunday night or Tuesday night show. But I’m not sure when the switch would be made. If they don’t order the ‘back nine’ pretty soon, not even a time-change will save it.

I’m really worried about this. I can’t even imagine how sick the cast and Bryan are about it.

Dear PD Cast & Crew: WE’RE WORKING ON IT.

Maybe we should start sending pies to ABC?? ;)

  28. Kimberon 10 Oct 2008 at 9:08 pm

It makes my heart hurt knowing that PD is in jeopardy. It’s such an amazing and unique show, and I can’t imagine ABC not giving it every chance possible.

Having said that, I think this last episode was one of my least favourites. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I hate clowns, and I really hate circuses. I still loved the ending, with the hallway scene … it made me feel a bit melty :)

And thanks for naming the girl who played Nikki! I knew she was familiar, and I knew her from somewhere. She had a guestspot on Criminal Minds last year, and is also Seth “Family Guy/American Dad” McFarland’s daughter!

Pushing Daisies is my favorite show in the world and I would do anything to save it. I need Pushing Daisies in my life and I know all you other fans do too. I know we can beat this whole low ratings thing but for now let us take some advice from Ned. “Bring a smile and positive attitude!” (from Bzzz episode)

Honestly and truly, No offense but I agree with Digby. I think it’s so sweet and fun that they can’t touch and if they could touch it would ruin the whole idea of the show. It drives me crazy and that’s why I LOVE IT!!!!!!!! Personally will will do anything to help save the show! Also I would absolutely positively:) LOVE to have it moved to another day ;)! I can’t watch it live on Wednesday’s because I’m always gone! BUT PLEASE, DON’T LET MY SHOW GO! It’s the only show I really watch! Moving the show to a new day will only only add more advertising! And make me happy:)

Sorry I don’t know why my computer does that! It’s so annoying. Just ignore one of my comments! :)

  33. rockerbabyfi12on 13 Oct 2008 at 1:28 pm

I definitely think that if they DO end up being able to touch, it wouldn’t (and shouldn’t) be until the last season. Or (if this IS the last season) until the last couple of episodes. It would totally change the show if they could touch, but at the same time, after watching them dance around each other for so long, I think it would give the audience great closure to know that they can finally be a normal couple.

I mean, yeah, it’s kind of sweet and everything. But after like…2 or 3 years (or more) of not touching, I would just start to get depressed if I were either of them.

  34. Digbyon 13 Oct 2008 at 3:17 pm

Why is touching so important? I ask this hypothetically. Is touch crucial for a relationship, and how does romance happen without it? This show is unique on so many counts, but questioning the basic rules of how humans interact and express themselves is part of its beauty. Chuck is tactile, Ned isn’t - even if they could touch, I imagine he would flinch if hugged by surprise.

The poet Kahlil Gibran and the love of his life, Mary (Sullivan??), were almost never in the same geographic place. They never married. Yet, they wrote to each other and had one of the best documented, most heart-felt romances I’ve ever read. Check out their published collection of love letters if you need something sweet. The pen pal romance in Pigeon was a little reminder that there are other couples who have relationships without touch.

If the no touching rule is frustrating anyone, perhaps ask yourself my opening question. Love exists and can be expressed without any physical contact. (Yes, the tension is palpable when Chuck and Ned WANT to touch - it’s like walking past free samples of the world’s best cheesecake. But, eating cheesecake everyday isn’t a good idea, and touch isn’t a substitute for communication and true emotion).

  35. grumpyoldmanon 14 Oct 2008 at 8:30 am

Keeping Olive wrapped up in nun’s clothes completely contradicts having Kristin Chenoweth on the show. Let the girl loose!!!

And I am also having the HD audio problems. But it looks spectacular.

  36. Oliviaon 14 Oct 2008 at 2:46 pm

I don’t think the big surprise should be Ned and Chuck being able to touch, but a relationship between Ned and Olive, Chuck is boring me anyways :P

  37. Maseon 14 Oct 2008 at 3:23 pm

Somebody brothched the subject of “touch” a few posts ago. I can tell you that being a former licensed massage therapist , touch is VERY important. There have been studies to the effect on newborn babies if they are not touched enough during formative month’s. The result is pretty profound. Less cognitively developed and more apt for social and emotional problems down the line.

Having said that , I just think that Chuck and Ned NEED to touch eventually to take the next step in there relationship and the show. Like I said earlier, the novelty of them not touching is cute for only so long and then people get bored of it.

The show needs a shake-up in story line and fast. Either the Aunt’s find out that Chuck is alive or Ned and Chuck can touch after all. There is a million and one clever ways they could write it to where they could.

  38. Shelbyon 14 Oct 2008 at 5:28 pm

I agree with you Olivia - I’m bored with Chuck, and she seems like she couldn’t care less about Ned’s affectations for her anyway. Plus she’s sort of annoying.

    Ned + Olive yay!!!!!
