oh this one should be interesting! First windmills and now lighthouses! on the beach too! now i have a whole image in my head! =) lol

  2. Kerryon 06 Sep 2008 at 5:18 pm

hmm. . . my first thought with lighthouses is The Fog (the original) and old, undead sailors

  3. chenofanon 07 Sep 2008 at 8:11 am

i think the show it starting to show a darker side so maybe the light house keeper died and the killer is still there ahhh!!!

  4. Theresaon 07 Sep 2008 at 11:47 pm

chenofan- I agree! =) That would be so awesome! I’m picturing a HUGE storm and the plot is like this old insane sailor man who lives up there! HAHAHAHA. My imagination is going CRAZY right now!!!!! =)

i saw a promo picture for this episode. =] it was on inFANity sunday September 28th on E! and it showed footage of the photoshoot many times.

Kristin Chenoweth (Olive) had a life preserver around her and was putting her bare foot on Emerson’s knee who was sitting down. While Lee Pace (Ned) and Anna Friel (Chuck) were sitting in a boat floating down a stream. Ned was paddling and Chuck had an umbrella. The whole thing was super cute! =]

  9. Jasonbreson 31 Oct 2008 at 4:23 pm

What sources say that this episode’s name has changed?

  10. veronicaon 10 Nov 2008 at 1:18 am

    they changed the name…

  11. Anilon 11 Nov 2008 at 11:43 pm

    Theresa,
OMG i saw that too but was it really for this episode? I was thinking it was just a promotional pic for the show itself. :)
WOW, now im so anxious for this episode. That WAS the cutest thing ive ever seen…looks like a colorful//dark episode mixed together YAY hee! :

  12. chenofanon 17 Nov 2008 at 7:30 am

    kchenoweth.net has pics

  13. Jesson 23 Nov 2008 at 11:15 pm

Anyone have a link to pics or that video you saw? Those pics on kchenoweth you need to be a member to look at.

  14. Pie Loveron 26 Nov 2008 at 6:32 pm

OK, so first the name was

    “Lighthouse”

    then they changed it to

    “Candle on the Water”

and then 2 days ago they changed it to

    “The Legend of Merle McQuoddy”.

I only have one question WHY? I mean it’s the same episode just changing the name to get longer and longer. Haha maybe we’ll find out. They’re all magical names!

Oh Pie Maker and Chuck, you should probably change the name on the episode list! :)

  15. Pie Loveron 26 Nov 2008 at 6:43 pm

OH MY GOSH!!!!!!!!!! I just looked at the pictures from http://kchenoweth.net, Emerson is raining a raincoat with Cod Fish on it, and Olive is wearing a raincoat with Olives on it. HAHA, they’re adorably awesome!!!!!!

  16. Jesson 28 Nov 2008 at 9:13 pm

Yah i saw those pictures too! I thought that that was super funny!

Im thinking that this episode is really going to focus on Olive’s past, i think that lady in the pictures is her mom! They did say that they were going to get into everyones past a bit, including Olives, so maybe!

  17. Christianon 04 Dec 2008 at 6:23 pm

Yeah Pie Lover, I saw that too. What is up with that? Oh well, if the trend continues of each episode getting better and better this one should be incredible

  18. Deniseon 05 Dec 2008 at 1:36 am

Either way with the name ‘Candle on the Water’ or ‘The Legend of Merle McQuoddy’, there is reference to the Disney movie Pete’s Dragon, which the narrator of the show had a big role in as Doc Terminus. I loved that movie growing up, so I can’t wait for this episode. It’s going to be great!!! :D

  19. Katieon 07 Dec 2008 at 6:00 pm

I heard Olive sings “Candle on the Water” from that Pete’s Dragon movie in this episode! I sure hope it’s true ^^

Two weeks in a row of the melodious Miss Chenoweth…what could be better?

  20. Anjelineon 08 Dec 2008 at 9:01 pm

Hey Katie, are you serious?!? YES!
I love hearing Kristin sing!!!! :D
    can’t wait!!

  21. Katieon 09 Dec 2008 at 10:03 am

Yeah…I read it somewhere that she sings…I think it was on Wikipedia though, so make of it what you will.

Sure hope it’s true though ^^

  22. Jesson 09 Dec 2008 at 10:34 pm

Ugg. I’m kinda bummed that I have to wait until tomorrow to see it with the rest of North America, cause A channel is playing it tomorrow, instead of on Tues. Oh well, this episode still soundsreally good!

Kristen singign would be awesome! Hopefully Ned and Chuck don’t have too much of a falling out.

Yay, A new post from thepiemaker! I kind of feel that things have been a little empty here recently. What about the Pushing Daisies soundtrack news and the A Lovely way to spend Christmas CD contest???

    I can’t wait for 2nights episode!!!!!!!!!!!
    =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

PS do you guys happen to know if the 2nd season will be released early and not waiting until September, as of :( there is most probably not going to be a season 3?

  24. Kimberon 10 Dec 2008 at 10:02 pm

I don’t like Chuck’s dad at all. I understand he’s wanting to protect his daughter, but … argh. He’s acting like a jerk, and now that he’s out somewhere in all of his mummy madness - I’m afraid of Ned being discovered and tied down in a lab somewhere, a la “The White Room” of Roswell.

Ned and Chuck fighting made me feel rotten, but I loved the hugs and the Saran Wrap kisses. Also, Emerson calling Olive “Itty Bitty” was absolutely adorable! As much as I’m enjoying every last minute of this wonderful gem, a piece of my heart is so sad with the realization that this show won’t go on for years to come, and give us fabulous episodes and lines like tonight.

  25. Gloriaon 10 Dec 2008 at 10:04 pm

I loved the orange plaid skirt, sweater & jacket Chuck was wearing in the episode. Where can I find out who the designer is and where to buy?

  26. danishon 10 Dec 2008 at 10:11 pm

I loved how emerson and olive (in their cod and olive printed raincoats) were the ones to do the investigating and whatnot on this episode allowing for more of a character related plot. It made me sad to not see everyone together but I did enjoy that this episode was less about the murder. I hate that I can’t properly enjoy this episode anymore because everytime I watch it I can’t help but think that there’s only a few episodes left. It really puts a damper on things : (

  27. Jesson 10 Dec 2008 at 10:18 pm

I totally agree with you kimber. Chuck dad is totally pissing me off! HE’s being a jerk, trying to turn Chuck against Ned. It didn’t work (All hail the power of ned and Chuck’s love!), but still…. he needs to stay out of it! I was so shocked when he made that deal with Ned. How could he ask that Ned never see Chuck again?Thats impossible!

Save for Chuck’s dad, this episode was amazing in it’s witty lines and adorable moments. The whole Ned and Chuck being the quarter back and the head cheerleader was really cute, especailly the plastic wrap kisses that followed! Anyone notice that they were alot for playful and passionate than the one we saw in “Fun in the funeral”? They clearly have been practicing! lol Oh and I loved the hug at the beginning there. So cute!

I’m really liking Olive and Emerson as a team. THey work well together and seems like their going to be freat frieneds. I loved the “Itty bitty” part.

Why does this show have to end? It so unique and fabulous, i squeal with excitment everytime i watch it.

  28. Jesson 10 Dec 2008 at 10:20 pm

    To add…..

How come there was no preview for next week???

  29. Kimberon 10 Dec 2008 at 10:23 pm

Jess - I wondered that too. But according to my online TV Guide, it appears that “The Norwegians” is set to air next Wednesday. Perhaps ABC didn’t think it “necessary” to show the preview?

  30. ashabanapalon 10 Dec 2008 at 10:26 pm

So, if there are four eps left, does anyone know the schedule for airing? Will we skip Christmas Eve and/or New Year’s Eve and pick back up in January?

  31. greenefanon 10 Dec 2008 at 10:59 pm

omg i love ellen! she’s just so darn adorable! viv is my fav

  32. Annaon 10 Dec 2008 at 11:16 pm

I so agree. Chuck’s dad is totally pissing me off. He is so annoying.

But otherwise… I totally loved the whole high school cheerleader sneaking behind the bleachers. It was so sweet. And plastic wrap kisses!!! Also the hug in the beginning… so awesome.

Olive and Emerson are so funny together. I hope we get to see more of that.

It makes me so sad to think that Pushing Daisies is almost over :( I start to cry every time I think about it. I just cannot understand how this show could have been canceled. ABC didn’t even think it was important to air next week’s promo.

  33. The Pie Makeron 11 Dec 2008 at 12:32 am

WOW, angry!Ned is smokin’ hot. So much good stuff tonight, there is no way I could have possibly caught it all.

My prediction - Chuck is going to ask Ned to re-dead her Dad because he’s going to get a little out of control.

    More saran wrap, please.

  34. Pie>Cakeon 11 Dec 2008 at 1:06 am

    Jess-
There wasn’t a preview because ABC sucks.
It is all their fault that this show is going, and this is the perfect example.
Lack of advertising. While they show previews for their god-awful cop shows, they leave a perfect show behind in the dust.
This is why I hate ABC, and will always hate ABC.

  35. Katieon 11 Dec 2008 at 1:13 am

God damn it that was a good episode.

So many juicy little tidbits to discuss…oh where to start…
Firstly, that “itty bitty” ditty with Olive and the Quartet was fabulous. Shame that my step mom was talking on the phone during it and I couldn’t hear….
Also the whole “Olive and Emerson” thing. Now that’s character development. I’d love to see more of those two together.

Secondly, Chuck’s dad. He pissed me off. But he did provide for an AMAZING action scene (Lee Pace fighting for his woman=love), and a very clever metaphor or two. The whole cake or pie thing was very interesting.

Thirdly, more plastic wrap please :)

  36. Lorion 11 Dec 2008 at 1:15 am

Best of the season, in my opinion. I’m going to miss this show so much!

  37. Daisyon 11 Dec 2008 at 1:18 am

Favorite part was definitely: “Tap that!” followed by Ned’s shocked expression.

Why are they canceling? Why does ABC need crappy “Homeland Security” reality shows when it has something so perfect in Pushing Daisies? Epic fail.

  38. Theresaon 11 Dec 2008 at 1:18 am

Candle on the Water was amazing! =]
Gotta love how Cheno just jumped right in there and started singing and swaying to the rhythm right away! haha.
Man I’m gonna miss this show soooooo much!!!!!
    =[

What’s with the NO PREVIEW ABC?! grrrr

  39. kristyon 11 Dec 2008 at 1:40 am

i loved it it was funny , i’m really gonna miss the show

  40. santion 11 Dec 2008 at 2:06 am

This just goes to show you people (especially those in charge at abc) has no good taste. Daisies was one of the last actual shows on TV. Now all we have is trash and more trash. Good job ABC.

  41. Nadineon 11 Dec 2008 at 2:34 am

I finally got my hands on the Season 1 DVDs tonight and did a double-take when I saw the Table of Contents insert: “Charles” is listed as the last name for both Lily and Vivian. You’d think the DVD packaging copywriters would’ve discreetly left off their last names given what’s revealed in the last episode of Season 1. Ned and Chuck aren’t listed with last names but Emerson and Olive are.

  42. Digbyon 11 Dec 2008 at 4:28 am

Pie Lover, thanks for the lightbulb on Emerson and Olive’s raincoats. I didn’t realize those were olives on hers, but the fish thing went right past me - ugh.

It’s late, but I have to say WOO HOO before I go to sleep. AWESOME episode!! Olive and Emerson are the perfect cynical duo as PIs. Lee Pace slayed me, completely. If anyone has it recorded, watch the scene when Lily opens the closet door - he does this little leap in the air… and the conversation with Emerson at the morgue… and getting wrapped in a tarp by Chuck (”I’m good”), and of course the plastic wrap! I just can’t get enough of these characters.

Charles Charles was perfectly scary - I think he’s suffering from untimely-death-and-post-resurrection-stress-disorder. Very interesting character in that he’s not bad but not good - may be trying to protect his daughter or manipulate her away from Ned. The fact that he just left the daughter he was just reunited with reminds me of Ned’s dad leaving… will the 2 fathers run into each other? I’m so nervous now for Ned.

Damnit, this show can’t end. The preview for the Homeland Security series was just salt on the open wound.

  43. Nikki, The Piemaker Apprenticeon 11 Dec 2008 at 9:14 am

I love this show so much and it’s breaking my heart. I keep praying Sci-Fi or someone will pick it up. I was dying during Emerson and Ned’s “tap that” conversation.

What I popped in, for, was to say that I think they aren’t showing the previews BECAUSE it’s been cancelled. I wondered that just like everyone else, but after Dirty Sexy Money (which was also announced as cancelled) there wasn’t a preview for that one either.

So, they’re being cheap and since they’re are doing aways with it, I’m guessing they figure what’s the point

  44. wish.i.was.chuckon 11 Dec 2008 at 12:54 pm

I just can’t believe it will be over soon. Pushing Daisies was the FIRST show I ever fell in love with and have been faithful ever since.

I also love Chucks clothes! I have been looking for the jacket that she was wearing in last weeks episode and the begining of this one ever since.

This is the first time I have been to this site and I love it but I just wish it didn’t have to end. It makes me sad to read all this knowing it will end soon. I wish there was something we could do to stop it.

    I guess that’s all.

I will miss this show greatly…

  45. Jasonon 11 Dec 2008 at 1:14 pm

Two thoughts regarding Charles Charles -

I don’t think Ned has ever revived someone who has been dead for so long. The most has been just a few days. Maybe another “catch” to his special ability is that when 20 years is involved, the revived person’s mind isn’t entirely intact.

    -OR-

Chuck was 8 years old when he died. It’s probably going to become more apparent that he is not really the father she remembered him to be, and she might find herself taking back her words about not being sorry he’s alive again.

The way things are going, I think the writers are going to off him before too long.

  46. Stephanieon 11 Dec 2008 at 2:14 pm

So, was this the last episode of PD? Or are there still one or two left?

  47. Jamieon 11 Dec 2008 at 3:19 pm

OMG!!! That episode was absolutely AMAZING! God how I love this show! I can’t even list my favorite part cuz the whole thing was just that damn good! And to think there’s only 4 episodes left. UHG! Just thinking about the end of this amazing show sends me into a depression. Damn u abc why would u cancel somthing this good? Um, and where were the previews for next week’s episode?

  48. emilyon 11 Dec 2008 at 5:32 pm

i love the fact that Olive and Emerson were together in this episode, they make such a cute little pair! Also i loved Chuck’s hair at the end of the episode, it looked adorable

  49. Pie Loveron 11 Dec 2008 at 6:20 pm

Did anyone else LOVE how Olive did that belly-butting-up thing with Emerson haha! HILARIOUS!

  50. Digbyon 11 Dec 2008 at 6:30 pm

YES, that belly bump was hysterical! There were so many comedic moments - there was such a nice mixture of comedy, romance, dramatic tension, mystery, even a musical number, in this episode.

Jason, I like your thoughts on Charles Charles. I don’t think they’ll be offing him anytime soon, though. He adds some needed tension, especially now with Dwight Dixon gone.

I’m scared of the last episode. If it’s a cliff-hanger that never gets solved, I may go bonkers. Some other network has to pick this show up.

  51. Luisaon 11 Dec 2008 at 8:01 pm

I was completely shocked at how Charles Charles acted towards Ned. But then again, I guess it was kind of time something happened to keep Ned and Chuck from living happily ever after…not like this could keep them apart, though. God, they’re adorable. And I loved the boyfriend-girlfriend-girlfriend’s dad dynamic. SO cute.

And Emerson and Olive work great together. I always feel rotten for Olive and the whole unrequited love thing, but it’s awesome that she can be such a rockin’ little PI.

Every time after a new show, I’m really happy, then I totally lose it and bawl because I know it’s that much closer to the end. And since they’ve redone the last episode to make it more conclusive…well, to be completely honest, that worries me. Are they never going to bother going back, to a movie or possibly another network? Are they not even going to TRY? And by “they”, I guess I mean Bryan Fuller, who’s really pissing me off by just running off to Heroes like this is all no biggy. AS IF. I’d rather have the cliffhanger episode and a possibility for more Pushing Daisies, than whatever “conclusion” they could’ve scrambled together in post-production.

  52. Pie>Cakeon 11 Dec 2008 at 8:24 pm

    Stephanie-
Luckily, ABC was nice enough to keep showing the rest of the season. There are four more episodes left.

Good thing this wasn’t on Fox, they’d probably just pull the show entirely.

  53. greenefanon 11 Dec 2008 at 8:29 pm

im glad chucks dad left but the next episode will be mostly about trying to find him and i dont want them to find him. i wish they had the aunts more. i heard emerson going to turn viv down when asks him to look in on the disaperence of her new boyfriend aka user. i really hate that guy, viv really cares about him. he was just using her for that pocket watch, and THEN he dicided to have feelings for her. idiot.

  54. eelwon 11 Dec 2008 at 10:06 pm

As bad as Dwight Dixon was, Charles Charles is worse. And I can’t imagine how much more evil they will make Ned’s father when he appears.

    I love Olive’s ghost story.

  55. Jesson 11 Dec 2008 at 11:06 pm

After reading all your thoughts and watching the episode a few times I’ve developed some theories:

    1) CC has got to go. Even Chuck is beginning to realize that he’s not going to co-operate, and I’m thinking he’s goign to get re-deaded.

    2) Next episode is called the Norwiegns, and with Chucks’ dad running off can you guess where how might be going?? Whether Norway itself, or some norway lookign village who knows, but I’m excited for what’s next!

Oh and great piont eelw- CC is way worse than DD, what with Ned’s dad be like??

Oh and of course, more saran wrap please!! :D ;P

  56. Abbeyon 11 Dec 2008 at 11:34 pm

Not one of my favorite episodes, but it was very good, as usual. Even the episodes I don’t love are still fantastic.

Anyway… When I first heard about Chuck being Lily’s daughter I thought, “What kind of guy would have a kid with his fiance’s sister?” And now, after meeting Charles Charles, I completely understand that he’s the kind of guy that WOULD do that. He is a first-class jerk.

Also, is it just me, or does it seem like Bryan Fuller has completely given up on the show? I haven’t heard anything about him trying to get another channel to pick it up, and while I realize he’s trying to wrap it up with a comic book series, he has to realize that that just won’t satisfy the major fans. I mean, how great can the show be when it’s only in picture form? We won’t hear the fabulous acting, or see the quirky costumes. It just won’t be the same…

  57. wish.i.was.chuckon 12 Dec 2008 at 12:32 am

A COMIC BOOK?! That’s retarted! I hate comic books! I love Pushing Daisies!!!

  58. Digbyon 12 Dec 2008 at 1:46 am

Agree with the comic book opposition. It wouldn’t appeal in print form.
Has everyone written to SciFi or another network to tell them they should pick up PD? There was a link posted a week or two ago in the comments from another episode, for giving feedback to SciFi…
Let’s not be too hard on Bryan Fuller, guys. He must be pretty fried with network TV after Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies all getting the axe prematurely. I don’t blame him for wanting consistent work for once. Unfortunately, I don’t think Heroes will (or should) continue much longer either. It’s nowhere near as well-written or acted as Daisies, but maybe it would improve with Fuller.

  59. Katieon 12 Dec 2008 at 11:01 am

I don’t think Fuller has necessarily given up, but I do think that he is distracted.

I mean, he didn’t just loose his show, he lost his JOB. And in this economy, that’s not a good thing. At all. So I think that’s why he’s gone back to Heroes for a while…to make sure he’s more stable before trying to deal with the PD fans xD

Of course one could argue that the man probably has millions of dollars…but still, it’s nice to feel needed.

  60. Mia C.on 12 Dec 2008 at 10:11 pm

Though I do think CC is a bit of a jerk, I tried to look at it from his perspective, and it lowered his jerkiness for me a little. Not entirely, but a bit, anyway.

You wake up in a grave after what seems like a very long sleep, and your little girl is no longer a little girl. That alone would be a lot for a parent to handle. Then you find out she’s been dating that boy from across the street, who, it turns out, killed you and robbed you of the chance to watch your daughter grow up. With all of your experience with death, you become somewhat paranoid about death itself, leading to the no-Ned policy.

I think he’s still resentful towards Ned for his death, and in a way, he’s looking for what Chuck is looking for: their old life and relationship back. He wants to take his little girl on a trip, like he always promised her. He doesn’t want to disappoint her. And after 20 years, he probably feels like he needs to prove himself to her.

If Ned and Chuck didn’t have bit of a crush on each other when he made her alive again, she probably wouldn’t have stuck around for as long as she did. She, too, left for a bit to see life outside of the Pie Hole, but the person she loves brought her back. Charles doesn’t have that. Lily, who he clearly still loves, is not at the Pie Hole. So he will go off, explore the world, and hopefully run into Lily in the process. That would be kind of cute, actually, because you know she still loves him and would accept him for who he is ^_^

This said, Charles still bothers me. Anyone that messes with Ned and Chuck bothers me. But this is just how I see it. I don’t think he’s entirely bad or is deliberately trying to ruin everything. To quote his daughter, “dying is as good an excuse as any to start living”.

  61. eelwon 13 Dec 2008 at 7:26 pm

Nah, CC is not the nice guy that Chuck remembered. CC, DD and Ned’s father obviously are very similar in that they have an evil streak in them.

  62. Digbyon 14 Dec 2008 at 4:30 am

    What IS Ned’s last name?

(Anyone remember the Nancy Drew books and Nancy Drew’s boyfriend, Ned Nickerson? Until I hear otherwise, I think Ned Nickerson has a nice ring for our pie-maker.)

  63. Jesson 14 Dec 2008 at 9:00 pm

Ned Nickerson?? Umm not bad… but it jsut seems that Ned must have a special name in itslef, despite his common name. It needs to be something to suite his specail talents.

Oh and Mia C. you make some good pionts. It does help to look at it like that, but I do still think that CC is a jerk. Oh and how could you say that Ned and Chuck have a “bit of a crush”, on eachother? They are IN LOVE!!! MADLY INLOVE!!!! a bit of a crush is totally different, and wouldn’t be enoguh to keep Chuck there at home with the piemaker.

Speaking of which… I love that Chuck chose pie over cake. Sure cake had layers and can be full of surprises, but a pie is the one that offers you comfort and love. They are meant to be together, and I think they’ll be ableto work things out with Chuck’s dad.

  64. zyzzyvaon 15 Dec 2008 at 5:16 pm

I think I found the promo video Theresa referred to in Comment #8.
Click my username for the link!

At the 3:20 mark you see (very briefly) the cast doing a photoshoot in a creek setting with a rowboat.
Just before that they show the photoshoot for the Sistine Chapel-esque promo photos (nice to see all the cast on a real set, not just photo-shopped together!).

  65. Jesson 15 Dec 2008 at 5:48 pm

Grrr anyone else have a link like for youtube or something? The link is for US members only. I’ msoo excited for the next epi!

  66. Mia C.on 16 Dec 2008 at 10:45 pm

Well, Jess, they are madly in love after they meet and get to know each other again, but I wouldn’t say they were madly in love the moment Ned brought her back from the dead. The leftovers of their childhood crushes were there, and they wanted to see if the other was still likeable/loveable. And, of course, they did. To our great pleasure :) I meant that they had a crush on each other just when they were getting to know each other again, not that it stayed a mere crush forever.

  67. Jesson 17 Dec 2008 at 10:11 am

ohh okay then Mia C. ur forgiven ;P I suppose i just read it wrong. Uggg why can’t it be 8pm yet? I’m dying for this episode!

I hate the fact that this show does not come on. I loved it sooo much yet desperate housewives has turned to a completely pointless show and they couldnt advertise this show enough. They lost out on alot of money those assholes!!!!!
