Episode Title: The Norwegians

Episode Summary: After Emerson turns down Vivian’s request to look into Dwight Dixon’s sudden disappearance, she turns to another P.I. team led by Magnus Olsdatter (Orlando Jones), Emerson’s bitter rival.
Written By: Scott Nimerfro
I worried that the lack of last week’s “Next time on Pushing Daisies….” meant that there wasn’t a new episode this week. I’m happy to report there is. Please join us back here at ThePieMaker.com at 8pm to watch the episode together.

he he norwegians so fun to say…
lool should be funny to see a norweigan ned, chuck and emerson.
yea it would be and me too it kind of rolls off the tongue norwegians
vivs going to asks emerson to look in on dwights murder but he going to say no. poor viv. im glad dwight and charels charels are gone.
that shouls be intresting about viv and Emerson. Wonder hiow he’s going to explain it.
Im thinking that Chuck’s dad might have run off to some Nerwiegn village or Norway itslef, thus the title
I dont think Viv. well ever know Dwights DEAD because shes not the kind of person to dig up her ex-fiances grave for no reason. I think she might need Emerson to look into his sudden disapearance. If Emerson DOES take the case (which would involve A LOT of money from Vivian) it would be interesting.
The Norweigan part comes in because in this episode Ned, Chuck, and Emerson meet Norweigan people that look exactly like them. I’m not kidding. I read it somewhere…..
And they DO look exactly like them Theresa! Except the Emerson is skinner…I think.
But dude, not kidding. It’s kinda cool.
And speaking of look-alikes, what happened to the twins? I miss them, they were really cool characters!!
And for THAT matter, what happened to Randy?? I know he was supposed to be in more episodes, but I don’t know if that got canceled because the show did…
*break into tears* I wanna watch this epsiode too!! But over here in Germany we are having a winter break now and the second season only starts on January 14th. Ages until then :,(
Somebody has to watch it for me and sigh in the right moments and be happy and cry^^
By the way, what happened to the whole Satellit Award thing? Last time I looked at the website no PD at all was on the nominated list. I thought Lee, Kristin and the show had been nominated?
No worries, Fran - lots of us will be sighing and smiling in proxy. Sorry you have to wait so long!
Magnus Olsdatter? Translation: Huge/Magnificent All-That? Love it. I wonder if there’s a home for the PD writers on Colbert or the Daily Show.
I’m in some serious de-stressing tonight, so settling in with my cuddly cats, blanket, and a cup of hot chocolate to watch PD is just what I need. I haven’t seen any photos from this episode, but the prospect of Ned, Emerson, and Chuck look alikes? Awesome! I highly doubt anyone could be as adorable as Lee and Anna (and Chi too, in his own way), but … meh, we’ll see.
I was worried there wouldn’t be a new episode also! Thank goodness for Pushing Daisies. I don’t know how else I’d get through my finals!
PS thanks for keeping this website updated. It seems like a lot of PD fansites have given up ever since the tragic news.
I thought this week was going to be a re-run so I agreed to stay late for a meeting. Damn!
Uuuuugh three more hours yet until I can watch it! It’s killing me! So far this has been the best day of my year and a new PD is exactly what I need to wrap it up in a nice little knot!
I hope this one isnt a cliff hanger. I’ve already watched the 2 or 3 over again.
what fabulous wardrobe [ala red coat]
whoa-did papa chuck move dwight or is neds dad gonna finally show up too. esp since he was riding camels with chucks dad.
this season is really shaping up.
is there still a chance to save the show for more eps???
Umm, intitial reactions — amazing!
And, was that George Hamilton?!?!
YES! that was George H. what a great little twist!
but is olive not the BEST?!?! she’s looking awfully tan though…
Not as cute as some episodes, lots of action, but whoa, what a progression some of the characters have made.
I have a feeling that we’re going to be left on a giant heap of suspense in the “final” episode (not giving up hope yet!). Sooner or later Olive and Vivian will discover the secrets that they’ve had kept from them. They get closer every week.
Questions about Mr. Ned’s Dad that I hope will be answered in upcoming episodes, besides the obvious “why did he leave and why is he here now”:
*Has he been following Ned for a while? If so, how long?
*What was his purpose in following Ned when he went out to hijack the RV? Was he planning to confront him or just watch out for him?
*Has he figured out who Chuck really is? As the show has mentioned numerous times, even in this episode, everyone knows Lonely Tourist Charlotte Charles.
*Would he have any idea of Ned’s ability? Is it, or something similar, hereditary? If so, could this ability (possibly different from Ned’s?) have caused Ned’s dad to leave him to protect him?
That is all. For now, at least. XD
Yeah! What IS with the networks jerks not playing previews for the following episodes? Jerks!
I loved, however, the “Titanic” portrait of Dwight! Brilliant! The jokes and jibes just sneak right up on you.
Oh! And Ned needs to elaborate on his last statement to Olive! Was it the scene in the first season when she said she hoped figuring out compatible saliva wouldn’t take him forever? I’ve got to know!!! I really beginning to love a little N-Olive action.
i really really do not want this to end…there were so many things i did not expect from this eppi…i love this show so much and really wish there was somethign we could do to change this…
Definitely a fast-paced episode!! I loved Itty Bitty, and how upset Olive seemed when the group (including Emerson) were keeping secrets from her. A part of me just wishes they would let her in on Ned and Chuck’s secret(s) already, but I’m not sure how she’d handle it! I agree that Lily and Vivan are bound to find out sooner or later about Chuck being alive, but I’m wondering if this is something we’ll get to see, or whether it was planned further into the future.
Now is Ned’s father good or bad? As I said last episode, as bad as DD was, they made CC even worse. It was sure leading that Ned’s dad is the worse of the group. But they are sure making it look like that he has been tracking Ned this entire time. So yeah, did he leave Ned because of a shared power between them???
I wonder if lillian knew any of the CC or neds dad secrets that involved chuck???
the aunts re so sweet and viv has been hurt so much I couldnt imagine how they would react if they knew charlotte were alive -again?!?!
this season has brought out a lot more than i expected & now we are all just going to be left hanging?
I cant see them playing this all out in a comic online?!?! I think that would fall flatter than their saying the show has
Hm, I have to agree, Kimber. I think Olive would handle it, because she’s just like that, but it would be a rude awakening. In some ways that would be good- she would be shocked enough at the darker side of Ned to move on (hopefully to Emerson ^_^) Unfortunately the aunts probably won’t find out about Chuck before the end of this season. It would be dull if they exhausted every plot in just 1.5 seasons, so I’m sure Fuller and the gang weren’t planning for it to happen soon.
AHHHHHHHHHHHH! I’m really going to explode if they don’t tell Olive the truth soon. She’s been so faithful and deserves to know!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!! She can totally handle it!
Did anyone else notice that Ned’s dad was wearing gloves, as he helped Ned and Olive up? I’m wondering if his dad has the same power and can’t touch Ned. As in, maybe Ned died when he was younger, his Dad brought him back and he can’t touch him anymore, so he left to keep Ned safe?
omg i LOVED this episode!!
YES!
Ned FINALLY tells Olive his TRUE feelings but at the moment of almost-peril!
and i felt bad for Olive cuz they would always leave her out of the poop, the scoop…
Interesting theory, Sonny. Maybe? But that wouldn’t explain why he kept his distance from Maurice and Rolston (however you spell their names.) I sure hope that issue gets addressed before the 13th episode.
And speaking of 13th episode, I have Comcast, which means I have a digital TV guide, and as far as I can tell, there aren’t any further Daisies episode this month. They cancelled the show, I’m going to go insane if they don’t air the remaining episodes.
Like I’ve said before, they could at least give Pushing Daisies at least one last season to wrap things up. ABC = Evil.
Sonny- I love that theory! It would be a great reason as to why he left, but then how would him leaving the twins be explained?
Well, still, I like to think that the power is a somewhat father and son relationship
And yes, I’m so pissed that they wont tell Olive! She definitely deserves to know. I mean, when it comes to Ned, Olive will probably do anything to keep him safe, and if he just explained what could happen if people knew, she would obviously not tell.
Once again, a terrific episode, I am just afraid that three episodes will not be able to wrap this up.
the thought of neds dad not being able to touch him is awesome! but if you also noticed his dad was COVERED head to toe so he could have just been wearing gloves.
the problem with the whole comic book thing is this. (that was very PD sounding…lol…) i have a phone with internet so i can get on here and a few other sites but i’m afraid i wont be able to read the comic book on the phone. (i dont have the internet otherwise) and beasides i dont even like comic books.
i also want to know about ned and olive. there has to be more to that story.
i guess thats all for now.
Oh and did anyone else notice that on the Norwegian’s bus-thing it said M.I.L.F? haha i thought that was pretty hilarious, considering the show won for best Family series (i think) i started laughing and my dad and brothers were looking at me like i was crazy hehe
OLIVE/NED FOREVER!
Santi- I’m pretty sure there aren’t anymore episodes because of holiday specials and movie and such. It’s probably taking a two week break and then coming back. I’m pretty sure the deal with ABC was that they would show the last episodes of the season, but would not order anymore.
They better show the rest, there is still so much that must be solved! T-T
I’ve thought maybe Ned’s father couldn’t touch him before as well but I think he pats him on the head when leaving him at the boarding school. I think his dad does have the ability as well though, in the pilot it calls Ned’s ability a gift that he received from someone. Then in the “Oh, Oh It’s Magic” episode there is a subtle hint at it as well when he revives the magician and tells him it’s magic at which point the magician says, “Must have got it from your father.”
There were a lot of funny little tid bit’s on there. From the Norwegian’s M.I.L.F to every word out of Emerson’s mouth.
Totally called that it was Ned’s dad who saved them. I was like, well it’s Ned’s dad obviously, because Chuck’s dad has a different voice completely.
Very interested to see where the story goes now, so many questions that I want answered:
1. Will Ned ever know it was his dad?
2. Will Olive ever know of the Piemaker’s touch?
3. Will the Aunts find out about Chuck?
4. Will Chuck’s dad come back?
5. What the hell happened to all the new characters and relationships Fuller has introduced? It’s like they dropped off the face of the planet since episode 6 or something.
Also, I just thought of this, but how could Olive work for Ned FOR YEARS and not accidentally spy him bringing fruit back to life in his OPEN kitchen?
Honestly. Remember in the Pie-Lette when he brought back that strawberry basically in the open?
Really it’s beyond me as to how someone else HASN’T found out by now about all this “waking and baking” xD
Any news on when ABC is airing the remaining three?
I don’t know if the magician was talking about neds magic when he said you got it from your father.
And I like kelly would like to know when the rest of the episodes. They can NOT just leave us hanging at that!
For the young Ned scenes, his father patting on his head was only to show his lack of compassion. I doubt the writers at that time were intending to already show the same magical touch between father and son.
And now we saw the scene where Kristin was hanging by a harness and pushed a rib up as she mentioned during her last Ellen interview.
Of course we will find out more about both Ned’s and Chuck’s dads. While yes, people complained about writing off Dwight so quickly, he was only brought into the picture to lead into this coming storyline.
“Oh… I was under the impression that penicillin would clear that up…”
Love Olive.
That comment by olive was awesome!
omg I can’t believe there are only three episodes left … only THREE!!!!! I wish the show could be saved somehow there are too many things that just can’t possibly be wrapped up in three episodes. ALso I’m not a huge fan of the comic book idea. It just wouldn’t have the same charm and I don’t think I could enjoy any form of the story without the cast : (
is abc airing the last three episodes? They haven’t given any dates for the 11th episode, I’m worried that we’ll have to wait for the dvd to come out…
Apparently all three of the last episodes of Pushing Daisies will be airing at one time some time in the beginning of January.
When that time is, however, I have no clue.
Another great episode. Loved all of Emerson’s wisecracks. And boy was i shocked that it was Ned’s dad that saved olive and him…thought it was CC for sure. And Ned tellin Olive that he has looked at her before the way he looks at Chuck…hmm…Only 3 more episodes left. Uhg.
P.S. It probly duznt matter anymore, but duz anyone know if the ratings have been going up?
I’m surprised at Ned’s comment to Olive when they were hanging… that seemed out of the blue. Olive is better suited for Emerson - she’s too cynical to be with Ned. Ned and Chuck are soulmates, so whatever he said was probably because they were about to die and he wanted to make it less scary. ?
Mia C. and Sonny, interesting ideas about Ned’s dad. The hereditary power would exonerate him leaving without explanation, but I don’t think it’s that simple. Ned’s dad still seems selfish to have left him at school and remarried in the same town. Also, he sent Ned a forwarding address, which is hardly distancing himself completely.
I’m actually annoyed that Ned’s dad is the rescuer - this is getting too soap opera-ish in the dramatic plot twists. I won’t be surprised now if Ned and Chuck are twins, a la Luke and Leia. Bad enough that Lily had an affair with her sister’s fiance who was ALSO their stepbrother. The weekly mysteries and character development are amazing. I’ll miss the characters, the wit and the look of this show, but the core plot is making the cancellation a littler easier to take.
(I’m still a fan, but an annoyed one. This world has windmills and cars that run on dandelions - the plot twists don’t need to be so incestuous.) Disagreeing thoughts welcome!
Theres a post on the ABC PD webpage that list the next episode as 23 days form now. That’s January 9th guys.
**SPOILER**
Now I had a question. Did NED’s dad set up Dwight’s death? OR did CHUCK’s dad do it? It hit me last night it could have been Ned’s dad because he’s been creepin them for a few episodes now. He could know a lot and it seems like something he would do. How much does Ned’s dad know?
If it was Chuck’s dad why all of a sudden the acceptance? I think if it was her dad (which it could be due to the buttons) it would have showed some more detail. Just an idea…
I think they’re going to have to tell Olive sooner or later. She’s a huge part of their lives, and she really deserves to know. And I don’t think Ned was just saying whatever when they were hanging off the cliff–he has to really care for Olive, but just not nearly the same way as Chuck. Poor Olive…
Hehe, Norwegia. There were these Norwegian exchange students once in high school, and the whole week they were there, we kept asking them about “Norwegia–I mean Norway..”
I have been wondering about Ned’s dad. I mean, he was hanging around in the first episode this season, why has it taken so long to fully get him in the story? But whatever, this is good too. I can never really criticize this show…especially as it’s on it’s way out…*goes off to mourn some more*
Wow. that was an amazing episode.
*What happened to Chucks dad?
*Where is Dwights body?
* Will the Aunts ever know Chuck is alive?
*WHERE WAS THE PREVIEW?!
*sigh* Poor Olive.. Is she ever going to get her man? Okay im done with the q and a.
Mobile Investigative Lab Facility. MILF. Oh, mother!
Umm kay, so that wasn’t bad, but definatly not the best PD episode. I so knew it was Ned’s Dad when he rescued him and Olive, you couldjust tell.
I’m not realyl happy that Ned gave Olive some hope about a relationship there. It was nice for Olive to know that she is loved, but now she’ll have this unrelaistic hope and never move on.
The whole Ned’s dad thing looks intresting, and I looking forward on seeing how it all plays out. Chuck will be disappionted that it’s not her Dad, but you can’t win everything right? Oh, and were have Ned’s brothers been? There were frequent visitors in two episodes, and now no mention of them. Does he still talk to them?
At the end there when Ned said he wasn’t going to use his magiv finger anymore Chuck almost seemed disappionted. I mean yah, it is apart of him and he shouldn’t try and supress it, but him not alive-againing people for a bit might be good, just until things blowover.
I wanted more Ned/Chuck mooments in this episode, but Chuck thinking the piemaker was sexy was a nice throw in. Oh and great catch Roxy on the whole MILF thing, I knew something was off there but couldn’t figure it out. Leave it to PD to add yet another “read between the lines” sex joke!
Oh and whens the next episode? The first Wed in Jan maybe? A preview might of been nice!
My favorite line was definitely the Superman reference:
Ned: I’ve got you, Olive!
Olive: If you’ve got me, who’s go YOU?!
there is another thing i did not notice…
i love superman…
but i love PD more…
(on my full keybord cell if i accdentally hit ALT insted of Shift PD is =\ i thought that was sad and everyone should know…)
I loved this episode! Lots of great twists! But, is it just me, or does George Hamilton seem a little out of place as Ned’s father? The man is literally orange (sorry for the low blow). I can’t wrap my mind around that casting.
According to the countdown clock on the ABC PD homepage the next episode will be on January 9th, a friday. That doesn’t really make any sense to me. Why a friday and not the wed? Their not bumping it to the dreaded friday slot because they think no one is going to watch the rest of the show?
Thanks to those who caught the MILF ref — I missed it! Watching it again, not sure HOW but I did. Also, the 2nd time through, the line about Olive going back “to play for the other team” at the end finally hit home. : ) I was just thinking of Emerson’s team the first time.
Not sure if I’m reading too much into the A-Team reference, but didn’t they have a homebase RV in the 80’s show?
I’ll always rewatch this series when I need to feel happy or laugh. So, although there isn’t a new episode until January, there are plenty of episodes to get us through… it’s been too long since I saw the Pie-Lette! Get together with your fellow Daisies fans and eat pie!
I have a plan for how they could quickly wrap the series up now that they need to
a lot of people believe Neds dad might possess the same ability as Ned. I think this will fit into the last episode.
Chuck will be killed again but ressurected by Neds father and since Ned has nothing to do with her 2nd ressurection it’ll nullify the conditions of his powers thereby allowing Ned and Chuck to be able to touch. it’d be very neat, if they do indeed go that way but if this show doesn’t deserve an unashamedly fairytale happy ending then what show does??
loved the episode..strange not having a murder to investigate but it would have cluttered it up way too much.
Man I’m really going to miss this show!
Ha, that would be quite the ending, Emmet! I wondered if Ned’s father perhaps lost his ability when Ned discovered his own power…
Man all these theories sound amazing! I really like yours Emmet, that would be just perfect if that happened! It would still fit with the show and make perfect sense, and then Chuck and Ned will finally be able to touch!
You are definatly right about deserving a happy ending. This is one show that just needs that to stasitfy all the PD fans out there.
Okay, so not the best episode ever, but still fantastic. I’m still not sure if I believe Charles Charles is a good guy, but I’m glad that we have some hope.
I love the theory about Ned’s dad having the same power! And it would make a lot of sense, thus allowing a tidy ending with very few loose ends.
Just a thought, though: if they have an actual finale, do you think they’ll still do the comic book/movie thing? I hope so!
MOVIE?!?!?!?!?! i haven’t heard that! now that would be awesome!!
thanks guys, glad you like the theory!
so would people prefer a movie or a comic continuation?
both have pros and cons,
a movie is great cause it’s big scale, we’d have the actors and their inflections, the wonderful chemistry of the characters and Jim Dales soothing tones guiding us.
alas a movie might be a hard sell..its one thing to let people fall in love with something straight away but a movie must hook people right from the get go! might not be able to do that.
comic on the other hand lets the story play out more and so many more threads to be teased out. there is the fact that certain fans would find the transition of going from one medium to another. (buffy season 8 is having some problems in that regard)
I just don’t know. I’m more mad I have to think this way at all!
Emmet…absolutely love your theory and that would be a awesome way to end the show! I would definately prefer a movie over the comic books though. If all the fans of the show went to the theaters to see it i think they’d definately make their money back plus more. I’m not much into comic books but if that’s the way the choose to continue the story I guess I would read them.
i say a movie…i really dont think that a comic would fulfill my pushing dasies adiction…and i think that real PD fans would go see the movie opening day and then i know i would go again and take my friends…and then i could have both seasons and the movie and it would be complete…
Movie over comics, definitely.
I don’t know, I love both ideas… the comic book would allow for more storylines to be played out, but the movie would be great because we’d get to hear the actors, and see the sets and stuff. It’s a tough call for me.
Ok PD fans, no one commented about young Ned going to jail. How long was he in jail and how did he get out?
For those of you that were not at the Paley Center talk in LA, Fuller said the writers had no plans of wrapping up the series in this season. At that time he was set to write a third season. Expect the final episode to have loose ends. Thus a movie or comic.
Michael, you’re right about the lack of comments for young Ned… he must have been sprung fairly quickly. But, I do love how many times we’ve seen that same jail cell over the two seasons. Has anyone counted how many characters we’ve seen in the Palen County Jail? Ned (both young and present day), the guy from Pigeon, the crazy lady from Merle McQuody… I know there are more.
dudes i was so excited when i saw george hamilton playing ned’s father. i cant beleave the absence of episodes till summer
HEY? wht ever happend to little gum shoe i hope Emerson finds his daughter o wait the books ended up not being published or something right?
Umm yah i don’t think the Lil’ Gum Shoe books got published. Oh and yah there has been a TON of ppl in that jail cell! Thats probably one of the sets they never take down.
I got the first season of PD for x-mas and I’m surprised by how different the first season looks to the second! If you notcie in the first few episodes Ned apartment is totally different, layout, wallpaper, everything! Plus his hair was more out of place and his make-up a bit pasty. Chucks’ outfits were more retro, liek those weird 70’s blue sunglasses. Her hair looks wasy cuter now and she’s gotten better at portraying such a huge array of emotions, her cute faces are even cuter than possible! Not to mention Olive’s hair looks way better now! In the first few episodes it seems like she’s wearing horribly put in extensions. All in all, the cast is doing a way better job at portraying their characters, and the sets, makeup and costume are creating even more fabulous things!
I just wanted to make a few things VERY clear because it seems like a lot of people are unsure.
Fuller had always planned this season to end in a HUGE cliffhanger and says it still will. It will leave a lot of loose ends and questions. So when the show was being cancelled he decided that he would TRY to make either a DC comic book or movie. Now the movie (as some have pointed out) would be odd because unlike a t.v. series it needs to draw in the audience right away and for this movie there would need to be some backstory. I believe that a comic book wouldnt do PD justice because it wouldnt show the witty dialogue or beautiful sets. The actors could also be a problem since Kristin Chenoweth has already signed on to do another T.V. show.
I think if Neds dad had the same power it would be VERY cool. What would be cool is Ned dies and his father brings him back and Ned loses his powers because of it and Ned and Chuck can touch and it is a happy end.
So I’m actually Norwegian and enjoyed this episode a lot. It was very funny, fast-paced and beautifully shot as always.
Couple of things about the Norwegians:

- It was easy to hear that they were not Norwegians. But I guess not a whole lot of you guys noticed that. I think it was funny how I thought the woman (Hedda Lillihammer) sounded like she was from Eastern Europe. And sure enough, the actress (Ivana Milicevic) was from Sarajevo, Bosnia.
- The names were real good. Hedda, Magnus and Nils are all common, traditional names. Lillehammer (pronounced Lillihammer in English I think) was the city in Norway which hosted the Winter Olympics in 1994, so a good reference there as well
- Loved that they said “Skål!”, the Norwegian term for cheers when they were drinking with Olive.
- The clothes! And car! All covered in our flag. How patriot of them
- Loved the bit with the Norway vs Sweden rivalry. This is also true
- And lastly how they moved to USA because of the (low) crime rate in Norway. This is also based on facts. If you haven’t seen this clip from Michael Moore’s documentary Sicko you should check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4L6-0WRfSA (the Norway bit really starts after a minute or so).
So that was my two cents. Just thought it would be funny for you guys to hear from a Norwegian on this episode. I love PD and I’m really sad to see it go. It’s too bad they don’t at the very least get the send off they deserve.
Endre, thanks for sharing! It’s fun to read your insights. : )
WHEN ARE EPISODES 11-13 AIRING?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!
ABC has a countdown saying something PD related will be on sat at 9pm. Lets hope it’s an episode!
now see my dvr says that there is a movie at 9pm on sat.
i live in the uk so i have not yet watched this episode so will someone tell me please what they are all keeping from olive ?
does anyone think that olive and ned shud get together becuase i feel they have more chemistry then ned and chuck
I sort of agree with you because olive seems to be more in love with ned . but can you imagine how tragic that would be for chuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i actually think that i now hate abc for cancelling PD show and i loved the relationship between ned and chuck. it’s so sweet how they hug and ’spoon’ in bed
it’s weird to think that PD will never return to our screens for a reunion :/ OMFG. i hope it does like next year or something, it’d be so cool!?
‘i used to think mastubation meant chewing your food..’
haha; i loved olive and chuck.
you don’t mess with the pie-ho’s
me and my bestfriends would all like to say thanks to bryan fuller, all the cast and crew for both series 1+2.
we LOVE pushing daisies.
OVER AND OUT!?
i wonder who made up pushing daisys in the fist place i think you will agree is a genius ,god what i wouldnt give for there brain! thanks soooo much to the cast and crew 4 making the best programme ever

Poor Vivian. She has a tough love life.
