EXCLUSIVE: PUSHING DAISIES Final Screening

It’s not easy when one of your favorite shows just disappears from the schedule. No warning. No closure. It’s just gone. Fans of the imaginative, funny and beautiful PUSHING DAISIES know this all to well. We all followed the ratings, we knew the story. We knew that this season would be the last for PUSHING DAISIES, but I don’t think we the fans anticipated that ABC would just pull the show away from us before airing all the final episodes. It seemed abrupt and unfair.

Supposedly ABC is obligated to air the final three episodes.  When this will happen is a bit up in the air.  Those associated with the show have their fingers crossed for a summer airing, but it’s all up to ABC.

Despite the show being off the air for months now, PUSHING DAISIES fans are still visiting this site and others to keep the spirit of PUSHING DAISIES alive in the hopes of one day being able to see the final three episodes and properly close out this particular chapter of PUSHING DAISIES.

Not too long ago ThePieMaker.com had the distinct honor of being invited to the cast and crew screening of those final three episodes. Although Dan sadly wasn’t able to make it, I quickly jumped on a plane and headed out to L.A..  I was thrilled to not only represent this site and its readers but, by virtue of being the only in the room not associated with the show, I guess I was there representing all PUSHING DAISIES fans. A true honor.

As the show had wrapped filming a few months before, the night served as a mini-reunion for those who had worked together the past few years on this project. Everyone was excited to see each other and share updates on the new projects they were working on. The talented cast and crew of PUSHING DAISIES might not be working together any more but the movies and TV shows that they have moved on to are better off for having them.

The final three episodes were screened back to back with short breaks in-between. All three episodes will be well worth the wait.  Each one is funny, sweet with just enough of the magic that we have come to expect from PUSHING DAISIES.

As the lights dimmed in anticipation of the series finale, I felt myself wanting to take it all in; absorb every last bit to make sure I didn’t miss a thing. I spent the next hour laughing hysterically at the antics of Ned, Chuck, Olive, Vivian, Lily and Emerson, and when the music swelled over the final scene of PUSHING DAISIES I was the one in tears. A room full of people that worked on this show day in and day out for years and I’m the one crying. Figures.

It was a bitter sweet night for everyone there; a joy to finally see the end product of all their work, but a quiet sadness that this was the end. It wasn’t easy getting these three episodes pulled together.   “Kerplunk”, the final episode, had already finished shooting when word came that the show was canceled. With the cast and crew gone, it was up to Bryan Fuller and team to transform this stand alone episode into the series finale of the show - entirely in post production. No small feat. But everyone pulled together to make it happen. Even the special effects, which are amazing but quite costly, were donated. It was a true labor of love. Maybe this wasn’t exactly how the PUSHING DAISIES team imagined ending the show, but given the circumstances I’m amazed at how beautifully it all came together.

Over the next two days, ThePieMaker.com will let you in on the secrets of the final three episodes of PUSHING DAISIES.  We’ll talk plot, special effects, memorable quotes, and maybe even a few hints about how the show wraps up  As ABC is obligated to air the final episode, we don’t want to spoil you too much, but we can give you enough to hopefully keep you excited about the show through its final airing. As for when that final airing may be…well, we’re still unsure.  As I said, Bryan Fuller and team hopes that it will be this summer but it’s ultimately up to ABC.  So keep the support going.  Let ABC know we want our PUSHING DAISIES!

Just because PUSHING DAISIES is over it doesn’t mean the story of the Pie Maker and a girl named Chuck is. We stole series creator Bryan Fuller away from the party for a few minutes and asked him to share some memories of the show and about what’s next for PUSHING DAISIES.  He also had a little message for YOU, the real fans of the show. (Sorry for the background noise, it was a little boisterous in there.)

Thank you so much to Bryan Fuller and the cast and crew of PUSHING DAISIES, especially Kath Lingenfelter for inviting us in to share that special experience with you, and for always being so generous to ThePieMaker.com and PUSHING DAISIES fans. We kicked this off before the first episode aired and it’s going to live on even after all is said and done. Thanks!

I’m soo depressed that Pushing Daisies is gone. There needs to be a movie. There just needs to be!! But I’m still remaining very excited and full of anticipation for the last episodes. This show deserved so much more! I know it sounds stupid but a huge chunk of me died the day I found out Pushing Daisies would push daisies. :-(

That would be a hard question to answer, Which is your favorite Pushing Daisies episode?! But I would have to say the very 1st one is the one that made me hooked to the show! I acutally watched the Pushing Daisies premier on tv UNWILLINGLY! (I know crazy) After that, I never missed a single episode, I was in love, I swear the show was made just for me. It was amazing. So I’d have to say the first one. I also really like Pigeon though-Season 1 episode 4. It was so clever and catchy and a great story line, but I liked all of them.

I’m not a huge fan of the comic book idea. I’d much rather prefer a movie!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE :) But I guess a comic book is better than nothing!

http://www.thepiemaker.com I’LL BE ANIXOUSLY CHECKING FOR MORE TODAY AND TOMORROW, AND EVERYDAY FOR SOME TEASERS!!!

Aww, thanks Kath! You are awesome :) I really appreciate your sharing the wonderful photos, news, and the fabulous video with us fans! Pushing Daisies is just too good of a show to die off, so I’m glad that fans have stuck by it, and that Bryan knows and acknowledges that. While I can’t say I’m super excited about the comic idea, I’ll probably buy it just to see what happens. I only own one of the Buffy comics, made after the series ended, because I’m really not much of a comic reader. Having said that, as much as I’d love to see a movie, I’d only love it if ALL of the cast could come back. Dead Like Me just had a movie come out, without the entire cast, and I just haven’t been motivated at all to see it.

Thanks Pie Maker for sharing. I had tears just reading this post. Can you imagine all the crying that’s going to happen in the “Dome”? I have to remember to bring tissues or at least wear long sleeves to the screening. It’s all so bittersweet. I can’t wait to see the last 3 eps., but at the same time I don’t want it to end. We have some idea of what will happen to Pushing Daisies, but what will happen to The Pie Maker?

Nice to hear the Season 2 DVD will actually have special features — Season 1’s “features” are weak, sorry to say.

Oh boy, what a huge loss for the TV-world!!!!
BUT Brian said there will be comic books and OTHER MEDIA! So a movie might be not such a crazy idea *jump*
The comic books might be able to explain the story more, but still I’d rather see the whole cast together again, because it’s them and the crew who really made the show alive!!!! So, thanks to you all, I had a wondefull time and I’m going to miss my Wednesday-PushingDaisies-Nights!!!!!!

  9. Vickyon 08 Mar 2009 at 12:11 pm

Still really feel the comic book just won’t do anythying for me!! Its the whole cast & sets & songs that make Daisies what it is, I think it just rather stopped now. Will they even have the comics here in the UK?? And like I said even if they do not sure I’d read them..I do wanna see the rest of the storylines but reading it just won’t work for me!! Argh. I really shouldn’t of got so attached to this show feel like I’ve lost a limb!! :-(

Dear Pie Maker thank you so much for sharing! Oh I am gonna miss Pushing Daisies so so much it hurts. I am so hoping for a movie to come out…I don`t think that the comic book is such a good idea…you can not transform this visual, colorful, quirky and sweet show into a comic book it won`t work. I don`t believe. We need a movie with all these great actors playing together.

ABC should atleast put the final three up on their site. Not cool for the people that have followed it since episode one and want to see it through.

  12. Marleon 09 Mar 2009 at 6:23 pm

It still says that the Season 2 DVD will be released on 25th May in the UK! So there´s a little hope for those who don´t want to wait til ABC airs the last 3 episodes in September (October, November, December…..).

After purchasing season one, my roommate and our husbands to be fell in love with Pushing Daisies. We would hold Pushing Daisies and pie nights until we finished each episode. After my husband and were married we purchased the second season, and have ABSOLUTELY enjoyed watching them together, and occasionally holding a Pushing Daisies and pie night with our friends.

Watching the last episode with its hurried ending, lead us to discover that Pushing Daisies wouldn’t have a third season. This information was hard to believe because Pushing Daisies is the ONLY television series I watch, or that is worth watching. Pushing Daisies includes practically all genres (murder mystery, fantasy, romance, action, comedy, drama), making it good for any time. The colour intensity is refreshing, as well as the unique antiquity of the set and costume designs. The script is AMAZING, witty, and intelligent. The plot is exceptional and intriguing. Every time I watch an episode I discover something new that makes me like Pushing Daisies even more. The fact that Pushing Daisies doesn’t resort to sex or ridiculously scantily clad woman to stimulate its audience, demonstrates that Pushing Daisies isn’t cheap, but rather intelligently unique.

My husband, friends, and I would be ecstatic if Pushing Daisies was made into a movie, or was able to make a third season.

    Pushing Daisies Rocks!!

I have just recently become an AVID fan of Pushing Daisies! When it was first coming out I really wanted to watch it but could never remember what time it came on. So, I finally remembered about the seemingly witty show and look it up on Netflix. I fell in love and spent my days watching all the episodes. Unfortunately, when I searched for Season 3 I cam to the knowledge that the show was CANCELLED! I couldn’t believe it. Lee Pace is so AMAZING! And Olive, Emmerson, Chuck? I love them!!!

I lost my breath. I needed the Pie Maker to touch me and bring me back to life after I heard the news. I will never forget this incredible story and I will always smile a bittersweet smile at the thought of it.

NOTE: I encourage those of you that don’t want it to end to sign up on Fanfiction.net and write your own ending to this great series.
