PUSHING DAISIES To Only Have 13 Episodes This Season
It’s the news we were prepared for but not quite ready to here. ABC won’t be ordering any additional episodes of PUSHING DAISIES past the 13 already ordered (and shot) this season. I guess we should note that the show hasn’t been canceled, meaning there is still a chance that the show could come back for more episodes next season. But I think it’s going to take Ned’s magical powers to make that happen.
Bryan Fuller told Kristin Dos Santos that ABC President Steve McPherson called and said, “We did everything we could.”
James Hibbard of THR.com also spoke to series creator Bryan Fuller who told him, “I can’t help but feel immense pride when it comes to ‘Pushing Daisies.’ I’m grateful TO everyone and FOR everyone who brought the show to life and for the very loyal audience that embraced us. If we are indeed dead on ABC, we now have to convince DC Comics to let us tell the rest of the season’s story lines out in comic book form and convince Warner Bros. features to let ‘Pushing Daisies’ live again as a movie.”
From your lips Mr. Fuller….
As PUSHING DAISIES still has (hopefully) more episodes to air this season we aren’t ready to be sad. PUSHING DAISIES has always been a show that has celebrated life and we here at ThePieMaker.com will continue to celebrate the life of this amazing show and will continue to do so well after the 13th episode has aired. We hope you celebrate with us!
I think we should all keep on calling, writing and reaching out to ABC to let them know just how important PUSHING DAISIES is not only to the fans but to the landscape of television. Whether or not this show spoke to you it’s important to support its unique voice. Television has become so cookie-cutter that the networks can’t be afraid of taking a chance on shows like PUSHING DAISIES in the future.
UPDATE: Nothing too new but I just received personal word from a writer on the show that things are done. ABC is refusing to say canceled, but yeah, things are over.
I in turn passed along word that fans will want to hear more from the PUSHING DAISIES after the 13th episode, right?

Let the waves of depression begin.
But, amidst those waves, perhaps we can be hopeful that another network will pick it up. Look at Scrubs. Or that ABC will decide to have a third season after all *crosses fingers*
Sorry to post a second time, but I forgot to put this out here: can someone please post a link to email ABC? Their site only seems to have a feedback form, I’m not sure if that’s the right thing or not.
No! I think I’m going to cry.
Tear
I have hope…this will work out.
But it’s a sad day in Couer de Couer!
Dear Writer’s Strike,
EFF YOU.
Now that that’s out of the way…the only thing I can hope (other than that by some miracle we could still have a season 3) is that this doesn’t totally shade the cast’s view of television. THEY MUST KEEP DOING TV. What will I do without my Pie Hole friends??!
It just really sucks when you can’t save something that definitely deserved to be saved.
Don’t blame the writers strike. It’s the network idiots at ABC who wouldn’t know a good show if it slapped them in the face.
KIM, I didn’t mean to insinuate that the strike wasn’t necessary. It most DEFINITELY was. I just wish it hadn’t taken the toll that it did on fledgling shows audience- and memory-wise.
And I agree that the execs at ABC are so stupid to cancel (or put on hold) 3 shows at the same time. Big mistake. HUGE.
This has been a really shoddy day for me, and this news makes it even worse. I’m angry at ABC, sad for the show and the cast, and just feeling like I want to find a network exec at ABC and vomit in their shoes. It’s incredibly sad that a wonderful show like PD isn’t being given chance to thrive. ABC clearly gave up on it shortly after its return this year, and they proved that by airing episodes willy-nilly, and not showing nearly as many previews as they did the first season. What happened, ABC? What made you give up on this wonderful gem?!?
‘Tis a sad, sad day.
It’s a sad day, I don’t want to believe it, I still have hope though.
Well, i think we shoud start sending 10000 e-mails to the WB and ask for a Pushing Daisies movie, maybe this is all we have left.
God, I’m crying so much
WORST DAY OF MY LIFE. I’m still firmly planted in denial, though. Boost the ratings! Lend the DVD to everyone you know. Send them this in an e-mail right now, but we musn’t seem desperate…
PLEASE TELL YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT THIS SHOW (x10)
I have lost all hope in humanity! This is just a continuation of networks cutting great shows (i.e. FOX with Arrested Development). I have to wonder, if this show won emmy’s after only 9 episodes, recieved numerous prestigious awards, and was loved by every critic, and not that many people watched it, then maybe the problem doesn’t lie with the show, maybe that problem lies with marketing, because if you can’t market a show like this, while others like Private Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money live on, then you should be fired.
Who knows, I used logic there, something ABC didn’t! (Even though i understand the economic decision)
UGH! What a bad day!
It’s been cancelled.
Well……fuck.
I’m exactly sure what to say. But, I knew this was coming. Guess I prepared myself for this day last month, when I first heard the rumors.
Sadly I didn’t get a chance to fully appreciate PD this week (been suffering from some sleep deprivation that sucked my emotional circuits dry), and now I feel terrible for not relishing every moment I’ve had with this season of the show.
But I won’t give up! Even if ABC does pull the plug, hopefully NBC will take that plug and put it into a socket where it will get stuck and you’ll have to have use rubber gloves and a crowbar to get it out.
This sucks. It’s Dead Like Me all over again!
I am going to be so sad if there’s no more PD. And it’s SO much better than most of the crap on tv. It’s not fair :/
The focus now needs to be on making sure that ABC airs them all…If they skip Christmas Eve and New Years’ Eve, there is one too few weeks to air them all, so ABC would have to put one on a Friday or Saturday or something.
Sure the premise seemed a little out there, a little morbid even, but…
the facts are these:
The show is anything but morbid, in fact it is ,or was, a fantastic, colorful celebration of life. And I’ll admit I would not have tuned in to Daisies if not recommended by my TV History professor. (Luckily the only episode I missed to that point was the pie-lettle)
It is a shame that television has become such a mind numbing, reality filled, I only watch a show because my friend does, there is a super hot guest star, its on MTV, advertise whoring wasteland. Which isn’t good news for someone who wants to work in television.
This, however will not be the end of the Pie Maker, Dead Girl, the Knitting Detective, the Former Jockey/Nun, the Darling Mermaid Darlings, Two For the Show, and our many, many clients.
Through comic book or movie theatre, there will come the day when Pushing Daisies will become alive again.
Dead Like Me AND Wonderfalls! Why is it Bryan Fuller can never fully develop what he creates?!?
I can’t stand ABC with their decision!! How could they do this!!??? All there ever is on t.v. is all about sex, drugs, selfishness and nothing but cold cold murder. Nothing is as touching as this show!! If this is the truth then there has to be a movie!!!! You can not leave us all hanging. There’s more stable people then me and there’s ones that aren’t!! We need a movie and possibly coming back to t.v. in the future, for me and them. This news has broken my heart.
I’m glad I waited to get home to read about it, or I would’ve been tearing up at my job. I guess that means the cast won’t be making an appearance at the next Comic Con. I’m glad my cousin brought the good camera for the last Comic Con.

A movie sounds nice right now! There’s some hope!
I’m really, really depressed about it being canceled, because Bryan Fuller’s shows are just fantastic, but I hope ABC at least airs the remaining episodes….
Oh and Leonora619, those are great pics! I love the fourth pic on the top
Let me just say that for the ABC president to tell Fuller that “they did all they could” is the biggest fucking insult I have ever heard . ABC did NOTHING to promote this show whatsoever. They let it stay dormant for almost a yr without re-running ANY episodes over the summer or on there sister channel ABC family. What morons. I will never watch a single program on that network ever again and I hope that all of you PD fans will follow suit.
IF anyone with half a brain is still out there , this is a true no brainer when it comes to making PD a movie. It would cost 5-7million dollars to make. It would make it’s money back on opening weekend alone. The key for Fuller is to pitch the movie NOW and not wait around for a couple of yrs. If just 2 of the 5 million hardcore fans went to see the movie , that would be 20 million right there!! Not to mention all of the dvd that would be bought. Let’s get behind a full length feature and screw the tv. It is clear that the networks are run by 12 yr olds.
i dont know if this is irony or not but just today i bought a shirt that said pushing daises on it in pink. bad timing i guess
I can’t say I’m necessarily suprised by this news…it was pretty obvious retarded ABC had given up on PD a few weeks ago. (Of course, that doesn’t keep Steve McPherson from lying and saying that they did everything they could”) I prepared myself a month ago when I found out it was in danger and cried enough then.
It does help that there might be a comic and a movie to tie up loose ends, though. I don’t want to sound selfish, but honestly I would like to have a new PD episode each week to brighten up my life and make me smile for an hour. A movie is nice to tie things up but in my own selfish way, I don’t ever want Daisies to end.
I really really really hope that some other network, cable or HBO, frankly I could care less because I would follow this show anywhere, will pick it up.
LONG LIVE PUSHING DAISIES!!!
WE WON’T GIVE UP!
Great pics, Leonora619. That’s a good camera indeed.
Just read your twitter, Kath … and now I’m crying real tears. This can’t be happening. It just can’t. I’m going to bed, too, to watch some PD videos on my iPod.
I don’t know why but sadly I can’t leave this page, I refresh every 30 seconds and there seems to be a new comment every time! I Just can’t let go!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m here despairing with others.
Me too, Pie Lover!! I just can’t believe it, I don’t want to. I’m hoping someone will post that it’s just a big cruel joke, and that this gorgeous show will live on again for season after season.
Tonight is the night to be sad. But we are going to get into serious celebration mood around here soon. Pushing Daisies doesn’t end after episode #13. It’s OUR show and we’re going to make sure it lives on people!! Deal?
Pie Lover and Kimber I can’t seem to leave too.
Deal!
Definite DEAL! Even if ABC has given up, we never will!
At least i’m not alone and we’re not the only ones!! That’s one thing to celebrate
Double DEAL!!!!!!!!!!!
I am beyond sad right now.
I need one of Chuck’s homeopathic pies….
I just can’t believe that they’re really cancelling the best show on television.
There just has to be a movie. And I will be first in line for it.
Yes. I, we want more Pushing Daisies,
Deal.
I do think it was completely ridiculous for ABC to put all of these shows on hold. Cancelled shows are replaced by dull, unoriginal new sitcoms that are cancelled themselves after only a few months. They will get even LOWER ratings with the bad sitcoms, so I’m not sure what the logic is behind it. Then again, they’ll advertise the show like crazy, which they haven’t done as much for PD, so it’s possible that the ratings could be closer.
And I feel so horrible for Bryan Fuller. Something or someone must be out to get him.
But, TPM, I must agree, it’s not truly over, as long as us crazy fans are around to force it to keep going, we will.
Well, to quote Ned, Son of a Bitch.
I’m too depressed to even think of anything to say. I’m going to go cry now.
A movie would be nice. Or another network. PLEASE, PUSHING DAISIES, YOU CAN’T LEAVE US FOREVER!..
I can’t believe the network cancelled Pushing Daisies!! How can they be so ignorant?! Pushing Daisies has been nominated and won awards, it has a dedicated fan base and it is the most original show on television. Just because their precious Nielsen boxes say that no one is watching, does not mean anything! We are watching!!
I guess we have a couple more episodes to relish and the possibility of a Pushing Daisies movie to keep us optimistic.
I had really thought that network TV had shown that it was still able to come up with `something new.’ I have enjoyed Pushing Daisies more than any new show that I’ve ever seen; it has had the most consistently wonderful and intelligent writing and it really brightens my week when it comes on. It’s too bad that it’s ending before it can really blossom.
Comics are not enough. I need that CAST!
I’m not made of hugs.
WE DID EVERYTHING WE COULD?????!!???!?!!? come on.. those words from Steve MacPherson just loses my loyalty to ABC. ABC had been my favorite network for 10 yrs/ now. Im disappointed
i agree, i didnt see any promotions about the Nov 20 return, and theyre saying: they did everything they could?
im partly mad at the: 1) writer’s strike 2) ABC network
but most of all 3) the NIELSEN RATINGS: inaccurate and unfair. it must be abolished
well i am completely depressed. i started crying when i heard the news from EW and confirmed just about everywhere. it just doesn’t make sense to me considering all the awful shows on television today. Pushing Daisies is so creative and original in a world where everything is either a remake or a sequel. i believe that this is a very sad day for television.
RIP pushing daisies
It’s an absolute disgrace on behalf of the ABC execs and decision makers.
It also shows very much that they do not care about us, the fans. What’s wrong with (official Nielsen) viewing numbers between 4 to 6 million? Although, still don’t think the numbers show the true picture because Nielsen only counts live viewing.
Anyway, I am gutted, sad!
Thanks to everyone who has been working on PD (cast and crew alike) giving us such a fantastic show. And fingers crossed maybe one of the other networks out there has the guts to pick the show up for more episodes and seasons.
Yes,let´s fight for a movie/cable network pick up!!!It´s doable!!!
As a fan over at GMMR questioned: “What happened to the re-launch we were promised?” All I heard from ABC after the writer’s strike was that they would be “re-launching” their new shows that hadn’t had a chance to thrive. If by “re-launch” they meant “randomly start”, then that’s what they did. But personally, a “re-launch” means hard advertising, day and night, and during “peak shows” like Grey’s Anatomy, and other programs that they KNOW have numerous viewers. I did NOT see any of this at ALL this year, aside from a commercial or two of cast photos. NOTHING about the show, what it entailed, and why people should add joy to their lives by watching it.
The “morning after” and I’m still just as hurt, disappointed, and angry about this. Comics will *not* do it for me, and while a movie with the cast is appreciated, what I want is another 10 seasons of this fabulous show.
Does anyone know if Bryan Fuller plans to market to other networks/cable? Or if it’s even possible??
so sad……… ABC just doesn’t have a clue.
The facts are these:
Other than McPherson’s lie about “doing everything they could,” I’m not painting ABC as mustache-twirling villains here. There was HEAVY promotion for the premiere, during DWTS, Grey’s, Desperate Housewives, and elsewhere. I blame part of the problem on the premiere being a relatively weak episode. EVERYONE, including ABC, was shocked by the numbers of the premiere, and I really think it was because it was one of the series’ poorest episodes. The bee story was dull and convoluted and nearly impossible to follow, especially for new viewers. The premiere episode needed very much to not have a case of the week–or at least a case of the week with more direct ties to the leads.
There was some promotion the second week–preview clips, ads, etc. But that was another episode with many flaws–too manic, too silly, etc. The first great episode of the season was “Bad Habits,” and by then (with the abysmal numbers of Circus Circus), ABC had probably already decided that it was a lost cause.
But enough hindsight. If we want to celebrate the show’s life and possibly a movie (NOT comics–we need Lee, Anna, Kristin, Chi, Ellen, and Swoosie to have real closure), then we need to look at initial steps. The FIRST step needs to be making sure that ABC airs all of the episodes. Looking at the calendar, airdates for Episodes 7 and 8 are already announced (through December 3). I think that some ABC release had episodes also scheduled (9 and 10) for December 10 and 17.
Let’s assume no new programming on Christmas Eve or New Years’ Eve (obviously not the latter). That gives two more Wednesdays in January before the announced Lost premiere date. Space for episodes 11 and 12. Somewhere, the 13th and final one needs to be squeezed.
My proposal is this–it will do us no good to send mean and nasty letters to ABC telling them how horrible they are and begging them to reverse a decision they’ve already made (especially if the ratings of the next episodes don’t improve either). If they can get higher ratings by airing Recap #3 of DWTS in that space, they’ll do it. The campaign to ABC now must be respectful and it MUST try to convince them to air the remaining episodes. Respectfully, please. Let’s not call Steve McPherson a liar in letters to ABC.
Getting the remaining seven episodes aired is the immediate goal and the first step, and all energy should be focused on that because it is NOT a sure thing that ABC will air them, and if they do, they could do something truly horrible like air them in June.
Well, the spiraling depression has finally set in. Took a few hours, guess I was repressing it, clinging to a shred of hope.
And do you know what the worst part is? People are rubbing it in my face. My step mom walked in all smug almost taunted me about it being canceled. My one friend even said:
“Yay Pushing Daisies is down the tube! That means ABC can open up space for some real shows, like Heroes 2!”
Needless to say I’m not speaking to him for at least a couple of days.
It’s like having one of your best friends die in a car crash that you know could’ve been avoided if they hadn’t gotten in that car with their drunk boyfriend. It’s tragic, sad, slightly poetic, but more then anything it’s too soon. Pushing Daisies still had a story to tell, and ABC didn’t do it justice.
Sure there’d be comic books, even a movie, but I can’t even being to think how that would be any better tehn a weekly does of TV magic. Really I can’t.
NO! why?! But we are holding Mr. Fuller to his words of comic books and a movie! It better happen.
I am truly saddened that this show didn’t make the cut. A movie and/or comic book would be nice, but it’s just not the same. Way to go, ABC, for killing one of the most original shows you’ve ever put on TV. Yes, I’m bitter. No, it isn’t the worst day of my life and I am not shedding tears, but I am incredulous that you can’t see the fan base and give this fresh show a chance. It’s to your network’s detriment, I’m afraid.
i vow to never watch any new shows ABC produces. If they already air, sure thats fine, but i dont expect myself to watch any new shows that come around next season. ABC treated PD so unfairly, i will hold a grudge for a long time.
This is awful. I don’t know what else to say…
Can you guys somehow -you have contacts, right?- let the Daisies team know that we love them and support them? And send them a big hug.
This was the only show I watched on ABC. They are idiots, in every sense of the word. Why do they kill shows the second the honeymoon is over? There are so many of us that love to watch these characters as they grow into their lives. ABC is dead to me and they can tell everyone that pays for commercial to air on their worthless time to kiss my money good bye!
OOOOHHH NOOOOO. I really can’t bring myself to believe this. Fan over in UK so now the question is will they even air the second season over here? (I must admit I have been watching it on the internet as couldn’t wait, but fully intend to watch it if it does get aired so don’t hate me!) Agreeing with what someone said above me, still in denial phase here. The thing that gets me the most I think is that we aren’t going to get a proper season finale…it can’t just END. On a cliffhanger. Its MEAN. We need some closure!! I will forever be wondering what happened if we don’t find out, it just can’t happen. And the comic book idea is totally not right, we need this cast to make it come to life!! It just won’t be the same. :-(. I think we need to get to work on persauding another network to pick it up - with all those awards it won & all of us - we can do it! A movie would be nice, if just to provide some closure - but I still think it would be odd to change to format. Go another network!!!!
…To quote Lori…who quoted Ned,
son.of.a.bitch.
But at least ABC has finally put all of their cards on the table, and made a decision. Although to inform the producers of this fate with a statement like ‘…we did everything we could.’, well that’s laughable and not to mention insulting to everyone involved with the show.
To be honest, I think the whole thing was a bit of a mess - with ABC I mean. It’s really nobody’s fault that the show was given to ABC - who doesn’t want to have their show picked up by someone with major visibility, but ABC has never taken a progressive approach with programming before, and PD is certainly progressive (for lack of a better word). ABC absolutely knew who they were (their identity) before PD, and they absolutely knew what kind of show PD was. What they didn’t realize, or want to admit anyway, is just how comfortable they are with being the Walmart of television programming. Walmart works in gargantuan numbers, making BIG profits, selling LOTS of shades-of-grey stuff to HOARDS of people. PD is the unapologetic antithesis of Walmart. ABC tried NOT to be their true selves for a minute by picking up PD, and then, they folded….cards on the table, um, we changed our minds. We want to be Walmart. (..although, 4-6 million viewers per ep. isn’t insignificant either.) At least now we know who ABC really is….future shows hoping to be picked up, take this as a warning.
I’m more than disappointed that ABC played their ‘we want to try an enlightened, progressive, tv show’ card on the good people of PD, and then gambled away PD in this experiment of theirs. Now that they’re ‘free’ from PD, they can go pick up all the uninteresting, uninspiring, business as usual programming that they can get their hands on.
And I bet Bryan Fuller is secretly relieved to be rid of ABC as well. (take that ABC)
So now, let’s take B Fuller’s reaction to the cancellation as an example, and just be proud of the PD cast and crew for what they’ve accomplished, and be grateful for the 22 episodes we got!
I never thought I could be so touched and enriched by a TV show, but there you go. PD will always be one of my ‘favorite things’, and will probably be my ‘muse’ in my creative endeavors. It’s pretty apropos that B Fuller is going back to Heroes, because that’s what he is for me. (Aw, shucks.) I’m pretty sure I have a crush on him (a crush of the straight gal/ gay guy variety). = )
Bring on the Pushing Daisies movie!
I’m with Strawberrypie … Kath, Dan … is there any way for you guys to contact the cast/creators and let them know how much we DO care? I feel horrible for them too, having a wonderful show that they were all so proud of be snuffed out like this. They need to know that there were dedicated fans, fans willing to save the show by any means necessary, and fans to tuned in week and after week and laughed, cried, and cheered with this amazingly talented cast.
That should not be forgotten, and I know I will certainly follow Lee, Anna, Kristin, and Chi into whatever they do next.
… oh and Bryan Fuller too. Through PD, I discovered the beauty of Dead Like Me, and then Wonderfalls. And by proxy, also musicals and Wicked and things of the like. I’ve really had my eyes opened these past two years to the greater world, and it’s all thanks to Bryan Fuller and his imagination.
Ok, I’m done now. Sorry for the double posting.
Oh no! I agree with you and I’m going to write another Mail to ABC imediately!! I really hope there is a third season and a movie would be awesome but still it couldn’t really replace the show. There would have to be many movies to tell all the stories that PD would have to tell!!!
But how can I reach WB? Does anybody have the address?
Nothing bad against Brian, but in my opinion PD is a at least a billion tons better than “Heroes”!!!
Long live “Pushing Daisies”!!!^^
[…] the piemaker says nouh. benché i precedenti siano tutti sfavorevoli) « […]
Hey all - people associated with the show know you care. I have no doubt about that. And once the last episode airs, we are going to make sure you have the opportunity to show them the love. We have a few plans in the works.
ABC had better air all the ordered 13 episodes or some serious kung-fu will be released on their heads.
This is such a dumb decision on ABC’s part - someone else said this is the only show they watch on ABC, and that’s true for me as well. So, if ABC is unworthy of Pushing Daisies, let’s hope it moves to another network, to cable, or film… not so much into the comic books suggestion. The samples on ABC’s site last year were too gross and they just don’t have NED.
Digby, Pushing Daisies was the only show I watch on ABC, too. I gave up on Grey’s after the whole Callie/Hahn disaster, and Brooke Smith’s dismissal. I certainly won’t be watching anything after PD finishes its run (which it had better!), both by choice and because nothing else of interest is on for me.
I will not be mad at ABC.. I will not be mad at ABC.. I will not be mad at ABC.. WAAAAH. Maybe alittle bit because of listening to that stupid Nielsen ratings. NIELSEN RATINGS not accurate at all. I knew a lot of people who tuned in this week, but they don’t have the Nielsen box.
Long Live Pushing Daises!!!
Truly a wonderful and magical show! What a disappointment for all of us who loved tuning in every Wednesday.
This was the only show I ever watched on ABC. Let’s hope it goes to another network!
I can’t believe it. So many of my shows have been cancelled over the years. Pushing Daisies is still an amazing show with great twists, funny and sometimes strange storylines and the characters are original and funny. I was a fan of Wonderfalls when that was cancelled. And now it’s going to be Pushing Daisies. I just wish that we could control the life of a show. Not these companies who can’t OBVIOUSLY see that they have a good show.
I’d like to go on record as requesting a POP UP BOOK conclusion to pushing daisies, rather than a basic comic book…
anyone else?
i think ….. yes i do believe that .. i am going to cry. this show gave me hope for the future of television. with all the crappy sitcoms, overly generic hospital dramas and the multitude of cop shows i was so happy to see that there was actually an original, quirky and heart warming show out there. tv is becoming so conformist i can hardly believe it. PD is my absolute favourite show ever and i currently refuse to believe that this is happening. oh please please pleas let another network pick it up or let it be renewed for a third season!
There’s a theory that in order to have a Nielsen box, it’s a prerequisite that your IQ be below a certain level…
But as much fun as it is to bash ABC…the ratings just weren’t there, guys. You can’t lose to Knight Rider. You can’t barely beat Top Model. Not with the budget PD had.
I’m troubled by the ABC bashing because that’s not going to motivate them to air seven more episodes. Like I said, they’ll air DWTS recap #3 in the slot if they think it’ll get better ratings.
ABC gave the show more respect than CBS would have. It might have been better off on NBC, but you’d think that ABC, the network of Walt Disney’s company, would be kind of ideal for a show like that.
Let’s be objective–the season premiere was a subpar episode (it really was) and ABC was as astonished by the ratings disaster as anyone else. Don’t forget that the pre-premiere promotion was HEAVY. Like Eli Stone with the Katie Holmes episode promotion. If a show doesn’t live up to that heavy promotion, it will lose it and eventually be off the air.
I think the concept of the premiere was misguided. They should have ditched the case o’ the week after so much absence. Or had a case o’ the week that was directly involved with reaquainting us with he characters. And I swear that the bee plot was the most convoluted, incomprehensible thing they’ve ever done. Episode 2, with its manic pace and silly premise, wasn’t much better.
We needed an episode of the caliber of “Bad Habits” or this last one, “Oh Oh Oh It’s Magic” after so much time. The bee episode (can’t type it because too many z’s, can’t remember how many) was not that, and it may be my least favorite episode of all (the Olive nunnery scenes were the only thing that saved it). So I like to ascribe at least some of the blame to the season premiere being an episode that was…not very good.
Fans should focus on getting ABC to put those last episodes on the air before lobbying for a movie, a new network pickup, or anything else.
OK,from what I know,ABC is going to air the remaining eps,I got this at tvbythenumbers.
Oh,and watch this.
http://www.eonline.com/uberblog/watch_with_kristin/index.html
I echo everyone’s thoughts, upsets and tears. Pushing Daisies touched me like no other show has ever done. It would make me laugh, jump up and down, feel romantic and tingly inside and cry all in the course of an hour. Now I feel numb. I don’t want to imagine it leaving.
I will miss all the characters and the magic they brought. What a treat it was to get to know them and delight in their adventures even though it was only for a short time.
Pushing Daisies FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t plan on removing my Pushing Daisies key chain off as a protest.
I am in a state of shock! I love this series sooo very much.. I got my friend hooked on the series as well and we are Danes.. we never thought that a series as rare, wonderful and great as this one is would ever be cancelled.. This is pure bull shit.. pushing daisies is my cup of love of the week, it is my slice of humble pie.It is my source of happiness.. why is ABC crapola shutting it down.. I cannot for the life of me grasp this as being a reality.. instead we are left with crap tv…Pushing Daisies should go on forever and when I die Ned should come and wake me up so i CAN SEE MORE FREAKING AWESOME PUSHING DAISIES!!!!That being said.. the fight ain’t over.. let us fight fight fight !!!
OH, the inhumanity!!!!! *sob, sniffle* *U_U* I will be buying those comics like the mad, rabid fan I am…though it’s just not the same. As for a movie? Definitely! I’ll be waiting in line the day before the box office opens. In fact, I’ll be buying a plane ticket to wherever that red carpet event will be shot! We should have a party block in a nearby hotel and have a Pushing Daisies Premier party!
Back to the situation at hand…
…
*Waaaaaaagh!* And, might I add? Boo-urns, indeed!
This sucks big time!
KellyH is right, the premiere episode was not the best way to re-acquaint old viewers nor to acquire new ones. I love the show, but even I had a hard time following the plot of that particular episode. The sad truth is, that after the first two episodes of the season, the show’s quality increased ten fold. If an episode of the quality of “Bad Habits” had been the premiere episode, the show might have had a better chance.
To be honest, there is a lot of blame to go around. The writers should have started the season off better, and preceding season two, ABC should have aired season one over the summer or on ABC family. But, this show is also a victim of bad timing. I fully believe that “Pushing Daisies” would be going strong right now if the writer’s strike hadn’t occurred. But, sadly, it did.
I just hope that we get a movie that can fully resolve all the fascinating storylines. I NEED CLOSURE!!
awful. ABC has made a big mistake, especially with the garbage that they keep on the air.
This is a sad day. I’m very disapointed in ABC.
But right now I need to enjoy the last episodes.
I can’t help but have some hope.. that somehow.. someone, ABC or someone else, will realise how huge a mistake it would be to let this show die. Especially after all the daisy love we showed.
Yet, this is a very sad news.
Well fuck this is sad.
I seriously seriously love this show.
I agree that the bee episode was not the best way to start the season, and it was one of those weaker episodes, like the writers were trying waaaay too hard. We really needed more episodes like ”oh oh its magic”.
I never even saw a single promotion for this show. maybe like one or two. yet i saw a whole bunch for private practice.
“we did everything we could”? yeah right.
Ugh D: I hope in the last few episodes we at least find out what Vivian read that made life go awry…. if she doesn’t know lily is chucks mom what could it be, this has been bothering me xD
I was so sad when we heard this news. At least dvd can continue to tell this story. Thanks for a great website!
I just had a silly idea. How about the PD-Fans go on a strike and don’t watch ABC anymore at all after the last episode of PD? Then the numbers of viewers would go down I guess and maybe that is the point where ABC has to realize that they HAVE to keep “Pushing Daisies”!!! What do you guys think?
I so agree with all of you!! The show was just fun, magic, tears, romance and everything all together. JUST WONDERFULL!!!
“Pushing Daisies” is a MIRACLE that needs a miracle now!!!!!
NOOOOOOO!!!
Do you think that maybe an other network would like to air PD?!
Like CSI, abc thought is was too complicated but now it’s very sucesful on his current network. Can’t that happen to PD, can’t we write to other networks?!
Oh this news makes me soo sad
@Camy: I suppose that could be the only chance for PD. But I think we (the fans) would have to do some talking and begging to the other Networks if we want that to work.
But we could try. Never give up! Long live PD!!!!!^^
Jennifer, LOVE the pop-up book over comic book idea! Nice call.
ABC really dropped the ball - not sure how they can say “they did everything they could” when they barely acknowledged the show. No reruns over the summer, limited promos this season, keeping it off the air for 3 weeks with no announcement that it would return.
I don’t use profanity very much, but I think the situation will excuse me when I say f#%* ABC.
Oh, and someone explain the Nielsen rating system to me, please. Seems outdated and inaccurate… the country which just elected Obama (me included) CANNOT seriously, as a majority, choose idiotic shows like the ones that are doing well. I mean, are the Nielsen boxes only in the Midwest and the South? Seriously. Without PD, there really isn’t much for smart folks to watch except on cable.
I ‘third’ a pop up book idea~ great suggestion!
and to speak to Tim and KellyH’s points…= )
I agree that the first couple of episodes of S2 were frenzied and more difficult to follow *relative* to what we saw in all of S1, but I don’t believe it’s fair to weigh the ’subpar’ quality of one or two episodes up so heavily against all the other *overwhelmingly* positive feedback, the solid ratings and the industry awards for PD, and sort of insinuate that PD could have/should have expected a bad result - like a series cancellation.
If ABC had given more focus to nurturing this show during the months after the writer’s strike and before S2 by promoting it more (i didn’t see very much other than signs in subway cars that everybody ignores), re-airing S1 episodes, etc, then the first few S2 episodes (well written or not) wouldn’t have had to carry the weight of the entire series. Had new viewers been given the opportunity to watch (and fall in love with) the re-aired S1 episodes over the summer, they would have had perspective to see beyond the ’subpar’ S2 opener and want to keep watching future eps.
ABC just needed to throw the potential PD’ers a bone.
PD was simply too young to suggest whether or not the writing for it would eventually be considered an asset or a liability for the long haul. (ugh! that’s such a sad thought…’PD was still too young..’) It deserves the benefit of the doubt though. ABC, however, does not. I still think they shot themselves in the foot.
Just my thoughts. I mean no harm. = )
Don’t you know, Digby? One of the prerequisites for having a Nielsen box is that your IQ cannot be above a certain level. Makes you more susceptible to advertising, I guess.
I would love to see this show picked up by the SciFi Channel.
I would not want to see a comic book ending. I want to see the actors I’ve fallen in love with do justice to this story, and comic book just doesn’t cut it for me.
I am very upset that they wouldn’t honor an emmy nominee. What I feel would be preaching to the choir. TO Whom specifically do we write to to save this show. It is my fav and my kids love it as well. It is clever how often do you get to enjoy this kind of dialogue. This is a show that a Disney world should embrace. Colors and fantasy. Keep the pie hole open. Say no to all the other cookie cutter shows.
I’m not giving up on this show. Ever. I actually having fully accepted its cancellation and am sending off thousands of letters begging for it to be given another chance. NEVER. GIVING. UP. EVER!
I want to see more seasons! I’m not going to give up this easily.
I felt really pathetic for tearing up when I heard this news until I came on here. Thank God I’m not the only one…seriously ABC?! The only amazing, truly touching show on television, and you had to give up on it. Shame on you. I hope you go bankrupt, it would serve you right.
I agree with everyone that there should definitely be a movie…but I’m really not on board with the comic books. For me, Daisies was also about the actors, and how beautifully they portrayed their characters, and in a comic book it just wouldn’t have that extra dimension. I don’t even know if I’d read them.
I am SO depressed. I really didn’t need this right now. None of us did.
I can’t believe this. UGH. I wasn’t in denial before; I was truly optimistic. The Emmys, the critics, the dedicated (albiet small) fanbase - no way could the ratings alone flush PD down the drain. But I guess I was wrong. I rarely use the F word, even in its censored forms, but I am going to now. F*ck.
Yes there is still hope. I’ll just view this as a short season. And PD will come back in Fall 2009. If it doesn’t, the asterisk is being replaced by a “u”.
I still have hope.. I friend told me to look for the ABC petition to save Pushing Daisies.
The link is: http://www.petitiononline.com/daisies/petition.html
I am one of many fans that totally LOVES this show and the cast. I saw them at comic con and after seeing how they get along made me fall in LOVE all over again with them.
Please… please.. ABC let this Fabulous show continue..
@Shardith and Linnea: You are so right, the show is not just the story, but it is about the actors too and because of that PD needs to be on TV or on Screen, a comic would not be enough!!! And I think maybe we should write to the SciFi Channel, perhaps it helps and they pick it up. ^^
Hey, I just wrote a message to SciFi. The address is:
feedback@scifi.com
Write them too and tell them why they should pick up PD!!
We are the voice, we decide what we want to watch!! Never give up!!! Long live PD!!!^^
hey i just thought of something, what ever happened to those questions viewers were gonna send in on abc.com and supposely some were gona be read on the air.
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :C
time to make a pie shaped birdhouse in my soul then…… :C
we better get a movie !! i want a real ending :C !!!
KellyH, thanks for explaining. : ) The advertising bit makes total sense.
Fran, thanks for the SciFi link! Great idea. I wonder about USA network as a possible home — they picked up a new show from a former miniseries, The Starter Wife. Very clever, enjoyable show. Anyone know how to contact them?
I am extremely upset. this was the best show on tv.
I am so sad about this and to make matters worse I was just on another entertainment website reading about it and there was this annoying ad for the new Victoria Silvstedt reality TV show and I was thinking, those are the shows that are being made now. cheap, disposable pieces of nothing when something truly innovative, truly magical are being cut down in their prime.
What do you need to be happy?
………….Pushing Daisies.
This just can’t be happening, it can’t!!!
Why ABC why? I don’t understand why they feel the need to get rid of such an amazing, magical show! This is the one show that brightens my day every week, and what am i going to do after the 13 episodes are up?
If it’s official and ABC is cancelling, i demand the end episode to give full answers on everything! At least a lapse in Ned’s powers and him and Chuck being able to touch, something!!
But of course, let’s hope it will still get picked up for a 3rd season. I really don’t like the comic book version, and though a movie would be amazing, im not sure how they could make it work.
I’m soo sad to hear that ABC has lost their mind and their hearts and are not contining with the most amazing, fantastic, and magically romantic show on television.
*bursts into uncontrollable racking sobs*
Aw, swizzlesticks!!!! I leave town for one weekend and this is the news I get upon returning. Oh, cruel hand of fate! Pushing Daisies is the milk to my cereal…the sweet to my tea. We cannot let it end like this. As Emerson Cod would say, “Oh HELLL NOOO!!!” To the other networks we go! After the last PD ep airs on ABC they can kiss my grits!
If one ill-concieved strike killed the show, another might save it…
If there IS a SAG strike, that’s a good thing for cancelled and bubble shows, as there will be a dearth of completed pilots and the networks need something.
Also, if all 13 episodes air, we have awards season to think about. Imagine PD picking up a few Golden Globe or Emmy nods and wins…I think ABC would have to revisit their decision then. And a SAG strike would help things by preventing the cast from beginning other projects. I can’t believe I’m actually praying for a strike.
What I’m really hoping is that some of these developments might take place before the sets are destroyed. THAT really is the final nail in the coffin. Has anybody heard anything about the fate of the sets? If Fuller really is going to go for a movie, you’d think that they would save them…
I never considered the positive aspects of a strike, though as selfish as it might be, I’d get behind it if it stood the chance, even a remote one, of saving our favorite show. This show is just too unique and, well, lively in spite of the morbid subject-matter to be stricken down before its time.
Awwwww….just when it finally comes back on…….. How dissapointing, ABC. This is one of the best and most creative shows on TV, and now its getting cancelled. I want to send a letter to ABC and tell them to reconsider. Everyone else should too!!!
Save the Daisies!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m still processing the heartbreak, to be honest with you. It’s amazing to me still that PD got made in the first place, and even more amazing that ABC (of all people) were the ones who chose to run with the ball in the first place. Here’s hoping that since they don’t own it that Warner Brothers will take their ball and go home with it and find new kids to play with.
You know, to take extending a metaphor way too far.
I really want news on the fate of the sets, and I’m hoping that the Pie Maker can provide that news whenever it’s known…
If they’re planning on a movie, well…they can’t destroy the sets. Warner must own those, so ABC has nothing to do with that…
Yeah, that was another thing I was really worried about: what will they do with the beautiful Pie Hole??! I too am too in shock to full process cancellation. Maybe I just haven’t accepted it. I haven’t stopped sending letters, only started also sending them to other networks. There’s just no way we’re letting this show go without a fight.
Luise, hear hear, I can only agree with you!!!!
Janaki, nicely said^^ “Supernatural” for instance changed the channel too, now it’s on the CW. As long PD is under the wings of WB there might actually be a chance that it can survive and get a new life on another channel!!
KellyH, I don’t think they’ll destroy the sets untilt it is REALLY over. Ans I hope this day is never going to come!!!!!!
I’m really glad that they are thinking about what to do next…
I hate this decision. I’m going back to not watching ABC once “Pushing Daisies” wraps up. If not for another network, I definitely prefer the idea of a movie over the comic book. The actors bring the added charm to the series that would obviously be missing on paper.
I’m not holding my breath on the network pickup though, based on what I read over here about the actors being released…
Over here: http://www.tvguide.com/News/Mega-Whisperer-Battlestar-1000230.aspx
COMMENT: The next time you speak to anyone from Dirty Sexy Money, tell them that people did watch the show and enjoyed it very much. Our only shortcoming was that Nielsen didn’t ask us what we thought. — Andrea
MATT: I hear ya, and maybe someday the Nielsens will be able to automatically sample a larger swath of the public versus a select few. That said, I offer this ray of hope for the Darlings: Of the three dramas ABC dissed last week, DSM is the only one that did not immediately release its cast to do other things. So c’mon, pump those ratings up! (And check out my brand-new video Q&A with Billy Baldwin and Seth Gabel.)
Didn’t Cheno say that the cast was all on board for a movie should it come to pass?
Bryan !!!
ouch, you do that everytime ! so just ouch !
I think your fans like me forgive you (I know I do) but it hurts everytime…
Better cast ALL the wonderful actors you EVER introduced us to in your movie. I can’t think of one I don’t want to see again on screen.
that would be Happy Times !
and give us news and plenty of DVDaisies extras about the making of the piemaker
with Love
I cannot settle with a comic book. It’s just not the same.
I religiously watch Pushing Daisies from day 1 (even though they don’t show it here in the Philippines). This is one of the few series that I watch and actually enjoy. Every episode makes me smile and makes my day/week.
I’m cursing ABC everyday for this.
I cannot believe they’re keeping Dancing with the Stars and cancelling Pushing Daisies. Come on!
At least allow PD to end properly. Give it another season, with like 20+ eps.
Now everyone will be left wondering how Chuck and Ned would end up. If they end up like Romeo and Juliet or Ned’s power screws up and allows them to touch each other. Ugh.
Thank you for your creativity, for branching beyond the usual on TV, and for offering us an affirmative view of life and relationships.
PLEASE KEEP THE STORY ALIVE. The DC Comics idea is a great one! Good luck with the movie!
This is so depressing! After a hard day at work, Pushing Daisies is sometimes the only thing to cheer me up. Not only do I love it but I tell everyone to watch and they love it. Do not cancel it please ABC!!!!
ABC Doesn’t know what they’ve done. You should all write AMC (American Movie Classics) and tell them to pick up the show. Because that is a perfect network for PD to be on. Join the campaign to MOVE DAISIES.

Well, I think that this page of comments just shows how much people will miss this fantastical show.
They did have reasons to cancel (money, ratings, competition from other networks) but I think cancelling it was a little too extreme! Maybe just move it to another day and have the fans enjoy themselves. It seemed to be the only “family” show even on T.V anymore! (at that hour anyway) I will miss this so much!
We will never know:
- Who Emerson’s daughter is
- Olive won’t know Ned’s secret
- Chuck won’t meet her mother
=( Sad, sad, sad.
This is horrible. Pushing Daisies is one of the most intelligent, delightful, and original shows on television. The writing is witty. The characters are complex, even as they provide viewers with simple pleasures. Ned is the cutest pie maker I have ever seen. The primary relationship in the film keeps me coming back for more. Olive Snook is fantastic: love or hate her she adds just the right touch of drama for our protagonists. Chi McBride as Emerson Cod is just the right touch of moral ambiguity and outright hilarity one needs when being bombarded by brightly colored visually stunning scenes. I love this show. They took away my Veronica Mars. Ghost Whisperer got weird. What am I supposed to watch?
I just can’t believe PD is getting the heave ho.
I mean ABC picked up scrubs? yuck. and who watches grey’s any more? double yuck. Do they have any good shows that haven’t totally jumped the shark? no.
Lame Ducks. All of thems.
Well I need to pre-order Season 2 and a gallon of ice cream for my sorrows. Maybe some pie too. *sigh*
Please, I beg you, no comic books.
Do it right, with the original cast, or please don’t do it at all!
I need an emotional Heimlich. I need the wet mushy ball to come flying out of my mouth. I need the pie-holers to wrap me in a big giant hug and say, “Just Kidding!” Although I’d be furious for even having them make me think the 9th wonder of the world P.D. I think, though it’s negative and even if you watch other shows on ABC Family or ABC, then we should stop watching, at least until they air the last episodes, just completely boycott, them we haven’t tried anything so drastic yet, it’s negative true, but if we did this, we could watch the shows after they come out on DVD. Because if all their ratings plummeted and we all sent them emails and letters with the link to a website dedicated to the boycott, then they’d get what we were doing. And if fans of Pushing Daisies happen to watch other shows, then they’ll know they aren’t just losing fans for one show, but for the whole network. Just an idea, a little extreme, but we haven’t done nearly enough to save the show that deserves a touch from Ned.
