Pushing Daisies WILL Air on Wednesday

Published by The Pie Maker at 1:18 am under Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies News

There has been some questions and chatter about whether or not PUSHING DAISIES would be airing this Wednesday (October 29th) in light of Barack Obama’s half hour campaign commercial.  Sources tell us that Obama either didn’t purchase time on ABC or ABC didn’t accept Obama’s commercial.  Either way, it’s only good news for PUSHING DAISIES.

And listen, we are NOT kidding around.  If PUSHING DAISIES doesn’t bring in more viewers this week, especially up against Obama who will be on CBS and NBC, then the show is seriously at risk.  We don’t know what else to say or do at this time.  Please do what you can to spread the word of PUSHING DAISIES.  Tell everyone to tune in on Wednesday at 8pm on ABC.

*Update: From The Hollywood Report, Bryan Fuller had this to say about going up against Obama…

I certainly have hopes and dreams of the Republican party saving our show. But I’m also hopeful there are a vast majority of Democrats that already know who they’re voting for and will be voting for ‘Daisies’ instead of some silly old political ad (vote Obama!).

    Come on guys!
We need to save Pushing Daisies!

Spreading the word as much as possible (though I’m doubtful viewers in Canada count) … this show is so insanely AWESOME and cannot be thrown to the curb so soon!

OK, people. It’s time to rally the troops. Kristin at E! said something about a major rally, and I wish she’d let us know what she means. Ausiello at EW and Roush at TV Guide are doing everything in their power.

ABC aired a promo last night during Samantha Who? for “Pushing Daisies.” That is a HUGE deal right now. In that promo, they ridiculed NBC and CBS for airing a political ad during prime time and said to tune in to ABC as the only place for quality television during that hour. All over images from tomorrow’s episode.

What we need to do now is watch what happens in Philadelphia tonight. Everyone needs to pray to whatever God he or she believes in that one of two things happen:

    1. The Rays beat the Phillies in the resume game

    or

    2. The game is rained out again (distinct possibility) and potponed to Wednesday.

Option 1 may not even help becuase they may change the schedule and have Wednesday as a travel day to go back to Tampa. Those of you who don’t care about baseball–baseball matters VERY much to PD fans right now. Make no mistake–THIS is the week where ABC will decide our show’s ultimate fate. We cannot afford to have Bones–even a rerun of Bones–be airing on FOX tomorrow night. We MUST hope for the stars to align so that there is a baseball game airing on FOX tomorrow night and that Pushing Daisies will be the ONLY scripted show on network TV for at least a half hour.

This World Series is reaching record low ratings. We want it to air tomorrow night. Any incarnation of Bones–will greatly hurt us.

Have we heard how any “send daisies to ABC” campaigns are going? One thing these campaigns have going for them is that they are preemptive. PD fans are not sitting on their laurels and waiting for the actual axe to fall before doing something about it. Moonlight was not saved because the fans were not on the ball soon enough.

But time is running out. It is unbelievable how crucial tomorrow night is. Anybody lucky enough to know someone with a Nielsen box–use all your power and influence to get them to wait until next week to watch Obama. I don’t care about your political persuasion–haven’t we heard more than enough from Barack over the past year? There is no reason for anybody to tune in to his infomercial. That is what ABC believes and that is why the network is using tomorrow as such a crucial test–and it’s a major reason that they didn’t agree to sell the airtime.

The Piemaker is right–this is no time to kid around.

And hey, any Obama fans around here? I’m a registered Republican. If PD’s ratings are better than his, I will vote for him. If PD loses to his stupid infomercial, I WILL vote for McCain/Palin. I live in Colorado, which is very much a swing state.

You can tell that to any Obama supporters with Nielsen boxes!

I am serious and committed to saving the show and will even cross a party line in a crucial vote if we can sway people away from BO’s shameless infomercial! Let’s do it. The fight is not over yet!!!

I am in love with pushing daisies, but I think the current election is more important. It was obnoxious of abc to bash other stations because they’re airing his ad. I think what Obama is doing is a good thing, and it is important for Americans to hear what he is really about, instead of all these lies being spread about him. So, I hope people at least watch his ad over commercial breaks. I hope Pushing Daisies’ ratings goes up on its own accord, not because people choose it over an important message that we should all be paying attention to.

  5. Oliviaon 28 Oct 2008 at 2:32 pm

Oh, and please don’t post that you hope the Phillies lose, its not cool.

  6. Kimberon 28 Oct 2008 at 3:20 pm

… looks like the baseball game is going to be postponned until Wednesday (as per CNN’s website), which means no “scheduled programs” on that night. Is this a good thing for PD’s ratings???

  7. karenon 28 Oct 2008 at 5:44 pm

I work on PD, and internally there is a petition that I received. Thought I’d pass this on to a PD fan-based site. Don’t come here often and don’t know if it’s been received, but thought I’d throw it out there. And yes, they are saying it’s going to air across from Obama, no change there…

They can’t cancel Pushing Daisies!!! Seriously, I will be absolutely devastated. This show is honestly the only thing I watch on TV. It can’t go off air!!!!! What will I do without Ned and Chuck?

  9. Lisaon 28 Oct 2008 at 6:48 pm

I was watching “Samantha Who” last night and they ACTUALLY SHOWED A PROMO FOR PUSHING DAISIES. No kidding. They even said that you’ve got a choice, watch political stuff or watch PD. Too bad that they will be up against baseball, but it was nice to see ABC promoting the show for once.

  10. Rhubarbon 28 Oct 2008 at 6:58 pm

Kelly H, I appreciate reading about ALL of your compelling ideas to save PD, and you are without a doubt a stalwart champion of this terrific show - seriously, but God help us all if we would base our voting decisions on ideas as arbitrarily as you purport you will. I adore PD as much as anyone here, but I do not condone your methods.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I could do without reading about people’s political leanings on this board - ie ”BO’s shameless infomercial”.

This election is the most important we’ve been in front of for many decades, if not in our entire lives. let’s put our full support behind PD without diminishing it’s place in the BIG picture.

  11. KellyHon 28 Oct 2008 at 7:38 pm

I accept your chastisements, Olivia and Rhubarb, but you are only being honest if you would have said the same things had it been McCain’s infomercial instead of Obama’s.

    Consider that before you judge.

  12. KellyHon 28 Oct 2008 at 7:41 pm

And it’s moot now, but yes, I would have rooted against the Phillies if them losing would have prevented Bones from airing Wednesday. Had it been the Rays that needed to lose to extend the series to six games, I would have rooted against them too.

And my attitude toward the infomercial would be exactly the same had it been McCain’s instead of Obama’s. No political or anti-any-specific-team attitude here (that’s where you’re reading me wrong, Rhuarb)–it’s all about what’s best for PD.

Again, would you have said the same thing to me if the infomercial had been for McCain? If you can honestly say that, then I deserve your rebuke. If not, I do not.

I got scared out of my mind the other day when I saw PD on Yahoo in “Shows in Trouble”.

    http://tv.yahoo.com/falltv/photos/shows-in-trouble/370

I’ve already converted my Bones-fan friend. A few weeks back, when Bones was off thanks to baseball, I told her I was watching Pushing Daisies. She doesn’t have cable, so she had nothing better to see, and she watched it and really seems to like it. Granted, Bones is nice, but quirky wit + cute, warm n’ fuzzy VS. quirky wit + completely mutilated bodies isn’t much of a choice, especially in the middle of the week when I just want a break from reality.

I sincerely hope I will be able to watch PD tomorrow, but considering I live in a Philly suburb, it’s doubtful. Love the Phils, but I’m not willing to watch them and have PD lose as a result. I guess I should thank Barack Obama for that half-hour long ad, so at least I can watch the first half, hopefully more.

  14. luckieon 28 Oct 2008 at 9:21 pm

fans are starting a mass mail in to ABC starting Nov 3 to show them the fans care about the show, send a post card or whatever to let them know we love this show or go to the ABC message boards to show support

I hope for goodness sakes that most of us have already made up our minds which way we are voting by this time. I’ve followed the debates and I’m debated just about up to here, and I’ve definitely made up my mind, so watching the infomercial isn’t going to sway me at this point.

Pushing Daisies all the way, baby.

  16. Oliviaon 28 Oct 2008 at 10:28 pm

I would have said the same thing if it was McCain, don’t just assume that I’m biased. I think no matter which candidate spoke it would be important to watch.

  17. KellyHon 28 Oct 2008 at 10:50 pm

Sorry, Olivia–didn’t mean to assume anything. I just think that the campaign has been going on since early 2007 and I don’t see how buying up prime time real estate a week before the election is doing any good–and it kind of seems arrogant in a way. We’ve seen debates, conventions, the incredibly long primaries–it just seems like overkill.

But hey, if he helped out Pushing Daisies by doing it, I’ll be grateful.

That’s why I (obviously jokingly) said I’d vote for him if his message got lower ratings than PD.

I don’t care who wins the World Series. I just wanted there to be a sixth game. That’s all. I think it’s obvious why. If FOX airs a new Bones episode (having their own news channel, they’re not going to air the Obama message no matter what) I think that will very much cut into whatever gains the show can make tomorrow. Looks like the makeup 3-1/2 innings are going to happen tomorrow anyway, so at this point, it doesn’t matter who wins.

Tear :( I’ve talked and encouraged everyone I’ve ever met to watch it, and tune in. All I can do is sit here and accept the fate of my life show, the only show my friends and I watch, the only magical amazing show worth watching!!! And pray. :(
PLEASE! WHEN PEOPLE ARE THIS PASSIONATE, YOU CAN’T LET A SHOW LIKE PUSHING DAISIES GO!!!

On the last option bright side, Pushing Daisies season 1 & 2 on DVD I can watch again and again. And lend out to show people what they let go!!!!!!! :(

BUT THAT BETTER NOT HAPPEN, COME ON EVERYBODY. actually, honestly and truly, I think most PD fans are doing everything they possibly can. It’s ABC that needs to have FAITH that ratings will get better. They just need to advertise, and change days, and bring in commotion and attention.

  20. roxas0027on 29 Oct 2008 at 2:49 am

    “Pushing Daisies” (8:00-9:00 p.m.)
During the 8 o’clock hour, ABC’s “Pushing Daisies” for the first time defeated NBC’s “Knight Rider” in Adults 18-34 (1.8/5 vs. 1.7/5) and, for 4th week in a row, beat out the NBC drama by double digits across the Women demos: W18-34 +57% (2.2/6 vs. 1.4/4), W18-49 +32% (2.5/7 vs. 1.9/5) and W25-54 +17% (2.8/7 vs. 2.4/6).

    * Opposite Fox’s World Series coverage in the hour, “Pushing Daisies” retained 100% of its Adult 18-49 audience week to week, while increasing its numbers among Adults 18-34 and across the board in the key Men demographics (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54).

  22. roxas0027on 29 Oct 2008 at 2:53 am

Pushing Daisies was nominated for 12 emmys!! for only 9 episodes. Things like this don’t happen for no reason and shows like this are a true gem in the hazy world of modern television. What more proof does ABC need that WE LOVE THIS SHOW!!!!!

  23. zyzzyvaon 29 Oct 2008 at 6:26 am

    Thanks for those numbers, roxas0027.

    However, I’m afraid we may lose any gained momentum in the coming weeks. I just checked the listings and Pushing Daisies doesn’t appear to be running next week or the week after due to Dancing with the Stars Results Show (bumped by election coverage on Tues, its regular night) and the Country Music Awards, respectively. O_o;;

What? ABC can’t ‘bump’ PD over too, or something? At least run some re-runs in the off hours to entice new viewers!

  24. KellyHon 29 Oct 2008 at 10:15 am

The two-week hiatus doesn’t matter. This is the crucial night, tonight. We’ve bashed ABC for not airing promos and seemingly giving up, but they have not dropped the axe yet. Were this show on CBS or FOX, it would have been gone already.

I guess we shouldn’t be too hard on ABC. FOX agreed to postpone the resumed World Series Game 5 tonight, so they’re airing the Obama speech too. That leaves ABC as the only holdout who didn’t accept the huge money to air the speech. That was a very bold move on the network’s part, and one they would have never made if they didn’t want to give Pushing Daisies one more big chance. So now is not the time to rip on ABC, even if they did give Private Practice a full-season order.

Best-case scenario has Pushing Daisies winning the night as the other three split viewership on the Obama event. If PD loses to one of the networks (likely CBS, as it is airing Old Christine afterward), that’s not a horrible thing, but losing to two or three would be very bad.

Cross your fingers, piemakers–tonight is the night. If you want to see Josh Randall as Charles Charles (and who wouldn’t?) the viewership gain has to be tonight.

Let us hope and let us pray…
