The Strike is Over! What’s Next for PUSHING DAISIES?

Things in Hollywood are about to get busy once again. Yesterday it was announced that the WGA members accepted the deal put together by the WGA board and the AMPTP, essentially ending the writers’ strike. The new contract will take about 10-12 days to ratify, and guild members are voting on Tuesday as to whether or not to remain on strike during the ratification process. Most expect the vote to pass without issue meaning that writers will be back to work on Wednesday. Showrunners are already back to work this morning.
So what’s the latest with PUSHING DAISIES? Bryan Fuller has already confirmed that PUSHING DAISIES won’t be back with more new episodes this season. But based on what Fuller shared with E! News yesterday, it seems that the writers on the show won’t be back as quickly as we hoped.
“We’re all thrilled the strike is coming to a close and we can drop the politics and get back to the creativity. Many of the shows are getting ‘return to work’ letters this week from their studios, but we won’t be one of them. Previously, Warner Brothers said they wanted us to start writing the moment the WGA allowed us to go back to work so we could get a jump start and begin stockpiling scripts for season two. But I got the call on Friday that they didn’t want us to go back to work until March, regardless of the strike outcome.
“That’s not to say there won’t be some informal meetings with the writing staff beforehand to discuss arcs for season two, but we’re essentially on hold until March (at least in an official capacity). The first order of business will be to sit down with ABC to discuss their thoughts on the nine completed episodes from what I like to call our ‘teaser season’—what they liked and what they didn’t—and then we’ll set about crafting season two and continuing the adventures of the Pie Maker and friends.”
I’m not going to be too over dramatic here, but I don’t like the idea of the show being held back while ABC tinkers with it. Here’s to hoping their network notes don’t conflict with Bryan Fuller’s vision.
Are you excited for the strike to be over? Leave a message to let Fuller and Co. know just how happy you are!!

Bryan, obviously you know I heart you and the rest of the writing staff, production crew and actors so I’m glad the strike is ending and I’m glad that you’ll have until next season to come up with some incredibly imaginative and touching stories to keep us swooning through the 2008-2009 season.
Knock out a majorly kick ass episode for Comic-Con as Kath and I will be there with bells on, pies made, and screams for the team.
Good luck and get to writing already! Slackers… I kid!

No, no and no.
The strike is not quite over yet. Members did not vote on anything.
Showrunners (e.g. Fuller) return to work today. Members vote TOMORROW (Feb. 12) on whether to end the strike. If they vote to end it, they return to work Wednesday. Members have not yet voted to approve the deal.
Please update title and first few sentences of the post accordingly. Thanks.
Dear No -
The words “The Strike is Over” actually have come directly from a few showrunners as well as many WGA members, so I really don’t have a problem using it on this site. Your point is taken but if you read the post we do clearly state the caveats to the strike actually being over. I don’t feel the need to change the site at all.
I’m sorry the show won’t be back for even a few more episodes, but I guess it’s understandable for networks not to bring back for only 4 or 5 episodes new series that the public may not be so used to…
Either way: the good news is that ABC announced renewals for another season, and (of course) Pushing Daisies is on the list !

I am so excited!!!! I can’t beleive the strike is actually over!!!!
But is Pushing daisies going to be on abc or wb for the 2nd season?
So happy for all my other shows, and even though PH is starting “summer” early (funny to think of when its february), they left on a really great note in terms of a season ender. only makes me more excited about season two!
Absolutely thrilled to hear that it’ll be back, though not so much about the wait. Too bad the writers won’t be back at it on PD til March, I bet they’ve all got a lot of ideas that they’re itching to get working on (if I were one of them I’d have gone stir-crazy by now!), ah well, hopefully there is lots happening in the unofficial capacity, and can’t wait to see it when it does make it to our screens.
Illianna, the show will air on ABC in the fall. The studio behind the show is Warner Bros. but there is no WB (since the merger of WB/UPN created The CW which is owned by CBS not ABC).
I’m so happy to hear that “Pushing Daisies” is coming back for a second season, even if I have to wait til fall! It makes sense to wait instead of only making a few just to have to wait another three months for more new shows.
I’m glad to hear its over. Now we can get back to something other than reality tv.
I just hope we get a chance to rewatch all of season 1, either on DVD or through reruns.
I’m so relieved to hear that the strike is over. I’ll be eagerly awaiting more wonderfully crafted stories from the writers, more whimsical scenery from the production crew, and more magical moments from our talented cast.
All of you are the perfect ingredients that combined make such a wonderful and sweet recipe called Pushing Daisies. Very eagerly looking forward to the fall season….go Season Two!!! =)))
As with most everyone, I am thrilled the strike is over, and I truly hope things are better now. As excited as I am though, It’s hard not knowing when PD will officially return to the screen. Can someone give me some kind of idea??
Congrats to cast and crew (including writers) on the strike ending, and I’ll certainly be eagerly waiting for Pushing Daisies to come back! How about some re-runs in the meantime, eh? The Pacific Northwest is grayer than usual this winter, so we could use a little technocolor, Daisies-style.
Bryan F. and co., don’t let the studio muck this show up. Stay true to the early episodes, please.
