I can’t get the page to come up. What am I doing wrong?
Wait, Alfredo is coming back in the next episode?! Or, were you just saying that he will come back eventually.
I really, really hope he comes back next episode — they can’t just leave it like that until whenever the show finally comes back.
By the way, good job with the podcast, guys! Hopefully you do it again.
Double post — sorry. Wasn’t the guy in Pigeon in the chest in the apartment a Rope reference, with them sitting around having coffee while he was in there? And, was the Bitches murder actually Psycho, or more of the flashing scissors in the study in Dial M for Murder.
Maybe something like Marnie next?
Oh, Hitchcock dorkiness. . .
[…] 12th? Well, if you’re a Pushing Daisies fan the we invite you to check out the very first Pushing Daisies PieCast presented by […]
neat podcast folks!
i like the idea of pushing daisies taking place in an alternative boston. i live in beacon hill and could most definitely see the pie hole on charles street. plus it makes sense considering the timing and range of the show’s weather.
Yay! I’m so glad you guys have finally done this! Now I have something to listen to on my way home tonight.
Rae - How long is your commute because we are chatty!! Thanks to everyone for listening.
You guys are amazing
Thanks for the kind words gang. It was really late when we recorded this, like 1 a.m. so it’s a wonder we had anything at all.
Ashes, I hope you figured out whatever it was that wasn’t working. To listen either click on the PieCast #1 link or the image in the post. Both will take you to the audio.
WaywardWind, OMG how did I miss the body in the chest reference? I’m a bad film buff. Wow, you’re so right!
I need to think about Joel McHale being impaled and which it falls into. This could be something for Bryan Fuller.
Yah! A PieCast! I love it. I’ve been loving your DDT and GMMR podcasts, and also the Grey’s podcasts, and wondering why ABC doesn’t do one for PD. But now you guys have! Yah! I shall download this onto my iPod as soon as I get home tonight!
WOW! I can’t believe how many of you have already listened to the piecast. Thanks so much. The Pie Maker readers are the BEST!!!
Kath: Haha, well it depends on the day and traffic but I’ll just take it inside and finish listening when I get home if it’s longer than the commute!
Also, I told you people would love it! I hope you guys make it a regular thing.
Can’t wait to listen to this later! Thanks, PieMakers!
By the way, did anyone ever figure out Bryan Fuller’s clue to the 9th episode? Wayward Wind’s comments make me think it could be a Hitchcock film ref, but I’m not very up on Hitchcock, so I still don’t get it.
hey! I really loved your podcast. Can’t wait for the next one!
I had some more questions to suggest. I always ask myself whether Ned can touch Chuck’s hair, or if it’s really only skin on skin contact.
What do you think of all the references to France. Couer d’Couers is definitely a play on the word coeur (which means heart). The Boutique travel travel boutique is really a bilingual way of saying it (the French would say boutique travel (with an accent of course)). I also happen to be a die hard fan of the film Amélie and it takes place in the same kind of hyper reality as PD and has the same type of narrator. In the pilot when Ned opens the casket and sees Chuck, The Narrator says “Only Prince Charming could know how The Pie Maker felt upon looking at her.” this is a direct reference to the moment Amélie finds the tin box in her bathroom and the narrator says: “Seul le premier homme à entrer dans le tombeau de Toutankhamon aurait pu comprendre l’émotion d’Amélie”. (Sorry I don’t know the English translation…)
wow this is a long comment… I’m such a nerd…
I got it figured out, I just had to switch computers.
Looking forward to listening later tonight!
I loved the podcast and I’m looking forward to more episodes! =]
Your Pie-cast is awesome!! Now I can get my fix on Pushing Daisies chatter without driving my own “Pie Maker” crazy. Yes, he used to work in a commercial bakery, making pies…many many years ago. We both love the show - but I’m the one who gets a kick out of reading what other fans have to say about it!
I’m looking forward to more Pie-casts! You should do one on Olive, she’s a pretty complex character on her own, and what’s going to happen with Alfredo? Will she ever spill Chuck’s secret to the aunts?
Is it just me or do the writers have some mysterious thing going on with Olive to not only name her pets after foods (Pie the Horse, and the re-naming of Digby to Pickle), but her name, and Alfredo’s name are also foods?
I listened to part of it last night, and the rest this morning. Gosh, you guys are chatty!
Hi Kath and Dan! I am a big fan of GMMR and LOVE PD so of course I had to come over here. I just also happen to be a Boston girl (though now elsewhere, sadly). I really dug the podcast and you mentioned that you would like to hear from fans about their questions and theories. I have a somewhat crazy idea that won’t leave me alone–what if Lily is really Chuck’s mother? We’ve been shown that Lily seems to have a somewhat deeper connection with Chuck and she is clearly having a harder time moving forward from her death. We also have had some oblique references to *another* reason, besides losing her eye, that caused Lily and Vivian to stop swimming. We’ve never heard anything about Chuck’s mother, besides the fact that she is dead–and incidentally, we are told this by Lily, who then goes “into her dark place” after saying that. I’m thinking that maybe Lily got in the family way and her brother (they have the same last name) offered to raise the baby…but knowing PD, even if I am anywhere close the explanation will be much wilder than that. What do you guys think? Am I completely nuts?
Wow! I think Ex-pat is onto something… Lily being Chuck’s real mother would make sense. You’re not nuts. Now I’m going to be pondering this for a while. I had a theory that Vivian somehow betrayed Lily (something about reading a letter of Lily’s from Pigeon) and that’s why they stopped swimming, but Lily definitely wouldn’t be able to fit in those mermaid suits with a pregnant belly.
I loved the piecast. I hope you’ll make an other one. I found it funny and interesting.
I also spent a lot of time wondering about Chuck’s mother. Who is she? What happened to her? Maybe it is Lily. I never though of that, but that would be interesting and would raise the question of who is Chuck’s real father (if that happens, the answer better not be, Ned’s father. That would be too much Star War for me, not to mention sick. That said, Lily really seemed to have something against the man).
I also wonder about what the aunts are hidding and about how they will react when they find out about Chuck (which we know they will). Why does Ned have that power? Is he the only one? Will Chuck and him ever be able to touch? That show raises many questions.
Your piecast was really good. Again, I hope it won’t be the only one.
I really liked the Pie Cast!! I just started listening to it on a whim, because I was bored, but you did a really good job. I just wish you would have talked about your favorite musical number. I, for one, love them on the show. So far, none of them have been horrible, and just went into the show perfectly.
Does anyone know what happened to all the repetition we saw in the first episode? It just kinda vanished… :-/
Any idea when the next Pie Cast will be out? Hopefully sometime after the new episode. ^_^
This just occurred to me. What did Ned and Chuck do with the golden monkeys from the pilot?
oh. and I agree with expat, Lily could be Chuck’s mother. I always thought it was weird they talked about her dad but never her mother…
The reference to reading the mail, I’ve always associated with Vivian reading the postcard from Chuck that came after she died.
I never thought about Lily being Chuck’s mother, sounds like a plausible theory, though. Hmmm…
And the monkeys, I just assumed to be how they afforded to get Chuck a new wardrobe and the twin beds, etc.
Speaking of the golden monkeys, has anyone else noticed other monkeys in other episodes? I just finished rewatching “Girth”…in John Joseph Jacobs mother’s home, she’s got three ceramic monkeys in the “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” poses on a table behind the sofa. I’m wondering if I’ve missed other monkeys in other episodes.
I’m also wondering, since Ned’s touch brings dead things back to life, why does the living mold on all that rotten fruit suddenly disappear? It’s alive too, right? so it shouldn’t be affected by his touching it.
Poor Ned….I’m hoping he didn’t get any vaccinations as a kid. The dead flu virus would just come back to life when he touched it. For that matter, how DO the rules go when it comes to touching things by ingesting them? Stuff that’s constantly “touched” because it’s inside his body?
Well, we watched him eat a pie in “Girth” and he knew it was one of his because the strawberry turned rotten again when he tried to eat it, so I assume it works the same for insides as outsides. But that brings up the question I’ve heard asked before…can he eat meat?
(Just finished listening to the Pie Cast…great job! I don’t usually enjoy listening to those, but that was fun.
)
Sorry, still haven’t had time to listen to all of the piecast, but to respond to what’s the greatest mystery of the show, I’d say the whole backstory of the aunts, Chuck’s mother, Emerson, etc. The rules of Ned’s powers don’t seem like something I necessarily want defined — it’s a fantasy. The personal relationships are much more interesting for me than the nuts and bolts.
To speak up for Dummy, it was one of my favorites, whereas I don’t think Bittersweets delivered (even after watching it again).
I’m the kind that thinks about the nuts and bolts of powers like Ned’s, and whether he’ll be able to touch Chuck at some future time without killing her instantly. That to me is the biggest mystery of all. Perhaps there is a caveat in that unknown rulebook somewhere that would make it possible.
Of course, this is something to be found out after a very long time and many many adventures =))
Oh, and I love all the macaws and cockatoos we keep seeing at the Aunts’ house. I would love to see more of these gorgeous creatures, written into a storyline if possible. (Bird owner here, I know how clever and resourceful they can be, especially about escaping from their cages!)
I have to say that this is one of the best podcasts out there and I hope that you guys are able to produce many more. There are a few this that I think would be great to add to the show. I don’t know if you have listened to the podcast This American Life. Well it wonderful and very entertaining. One of the things that they do which I feel would greatly add to the podcast, is that they add in music to the podcast. I did like the song at the beginning but they are able to add the music into the podcast add it adds to the program. You can get this podcast on iTunes. Listen and you will find out what I mean. I noticed that you had connections to the cast and how did you get to see the promo early? I think that you guys should take guests and have interviews on the show. I t would add to the show greatly. Also have you ever considered making a video podcast. And since this podcast is heard by so many you really do have a lot of power. Is there any way that we could all rally together and try to get PD onto iTunes? and also I think that you should have a fan artwork section on the website because I have done a few pieces about the show. Also you could even host contests and maybe give out t shirts as prizes. Just a thought. Another area that I think would be great is a chat room that e could enter and exit anytime and you could have a thought for the day and we could all discuss that thought. any way hope to see the show again soon. P.S. I have started to rally together a Pushing Daisies fan club at my school. PD for life!!!!!
Really enjoyed the podcast- hope to see another one soon!
On Ned eating meat that comes back to life…..*shudders at the thought*
I hope that gets covered on the show.
It brings up the question, how far dead can something be before Ned can’t bring it back to life? Does it have to be all in one piece? Presumably there has to be a point of decay where it becomes impossible to bring it back…..Though as another veggie I like the idea of a veggie Ned.
congratulations for the podcast, it was amazing!

whre can i find to download the version of birdhouse on your soul that they sing in the show? it’s just lovely and a great opening for your piecast
Is there anywhere that I can find any of the recipes from the show? I would have thought they would have them somewhere here.
Great podcast! My response has to do with where the show takes place…i remembered from Pie-lette that when they solve the murder of the guy who was murdered by his secretary’s dog the news says that “a tip led to the solving of the murder of a michigan entrapeneur” (ps. sorry about spelling) so wouldn’t that place them in michigan?
just wanted to see what you thought, keep up the great work!
I keep checking back to see if there is another podcast up, now that the “season finale” has just aired.
Please tell me your coming out with a new one… a soon!
Finally got around to listening to this podcast! Hey, you can’t blame me when I got to spend all of my summer work breaks outdoors, walking with the DDT/GMMR podcasts on iPod (though a warning … I CANNOT listen to your Comic Con PD cast in public because I laugh too much and people think I’m weird). Now, however, it’s winter and that means -40C temperatures and no more outdoors
I can’t even remember half of the wonderful things you guys discussed, but I really enjoyed it! Please, please do more!! I don’t know what it is about you two, but I just love hearing you talk. I’ll even listen to the entirety of your other podcasts, though I don’t even watch half of those shows.
Loved the favourites … my favourite episode has GOT to be the “Pie-lette”, of course, because it was just so spectacular and beautiful and it hooked me right into the show. I just didn’t want that hour to end! My next favourite is the same as Kath, “Fun in the Funeral” because it’s hilarious, I love the Pooh bits, and it’s nice to see progression with the characters.
Favourite funny bits are DEFINITELY involving Emerson because he’s just hilarious. His “oh hale no” still cracks me up, even when I read it or see it iconized somewhere. Aside from those moments, I loved a lot of really small Olive moments … like her running from the Aunts’ house holding her boobs, or her spying on Ned and Chuck out her window with a mirror, swinging into the wall and muttering, “oh crap”. Olive and Emerson are like the comedic relief for this show, especially when it gets dark!
Oh, this was great! A perfect fix since we won’t be getting any more season… I would love to hear more.
LOVE IT!!!! when are you guys gonna do a second one?!?! i need more to indulge in my PD fix!

Hey!
This piecast is awesome! Are you going to go indepth of each episode in a separate piecast now that we won’t have more until season two? I think that people would like that very much. Or have a episode for each character looking into their personalities and quotes. Just a sugestion! Thanks! Keep em comming!!!
[…] of the Pushing Daisies Paley Festival panel then you know we’re planning on doing another Piecast Podcast to chat about how incredible the evening was but we couldn’t help get some information up […]

ok so i love this show but there is one thing i totally HATE about it!
i mean Chuck and Ned can’t touch it makes me want to cry it’s so depressing i mean falling in love with someone and not being able to touch them i would kill myself.
What happened to Pushing Daisies?! Why doesn’t it come on anymore :(???
